Question about Quantum ATL SuperLoader Ultrium Tape Drive
The Superloader will not initialize and says drive error 3D. I have been able to narrow it down to what I think is happening based on the Xtalk tool. The drive is LTO2 and has the latest firmware and windows 2003 sees it just fine. the loader is also seen by windows 2003 but when the drive is in the autoloader the autoloader sees the drive as ultrium 1 100/200 GB when it should be 200/400 which is what windows sees it as. How do I get the firmware on the loader updated? I have downloaded the correct version I need but every time I try in upgrade the Superloader firmware using the web I get error message saying firmware upgrade failed, superloader cannot be taken offline. I cannot use the front panel to upgrade because the initialization fails. Is there a seperate utility I can use to get the superloader firmware upgraded?
The LTO family drives all support a tape-related diagnostic spec called TapeAlert, and if you use a software product that decodes it and can dump out all of the settings related to firmware, error logs, etc ... then I have no doubt it will provide root cause. Check out http://www.santools.com/smart/unix/manual (the code is also ported to windows. There are links for TapeAlert reporting) Or go to http://www.tapealert.org for info on the spec.
