Get the Netgear WG511 with prism54 chipset, I've also bought first the
dwl-610 and also tried both driverloader and ndiswrapper and wasn't
succesfull either. Just stick to the Netgear one, it works like a charm :D

Thanks again Steven!

Now everything is working. I was having problem with the WEP. Now, I
just have to reload the driver everytime I reboot the computer. It's not
a big deal though, but do you have any suggestion?

Thanks again!

Having finally bought driverloader this week I have been experimenting a
bit.  Under Mandrake community 10.1 I have found that you can now
configure the wireless settings using the Mandrake "configure your
computer" tools.  Once driverloader was installed and rebooted I
selected "Configure your computer" -> "Network and Internet" -> "New
connection" -> "eth1:" -> "next" then entered my details in the boxes.

The problem is that mandrake attempts to bring up eth1 before it has
loaded the driverloader module.  The second problem is, that even if I
log in and type "ifconfig eth1 up" it doesn't work unless I unload and
reload the driverloader module, which I think is a problem I had when I
tried it in august.  Has anyone else had these problems?

If the light is blinking then that means the driver is loaded
successfully.  At this point I'm afraid you will have to use the command
line to finish off.  You need to set the network name (the SSID) and
maybe the encryption key.

You need to open a console: click on System, Terminals, Konsole.
At the prompt, you need to type the following:

steve]$ su -
Password: (root password)
root]# iwconfig eth1 essid "network name"
root]# iwconfig eth1 key "encryption key"

Change network name and encryption key for your own settings, you can
leave out the second line if you don't encrypt your network.

I'm not sure if there is an official solution because driverloader
wasn't included in the design of mandrake.  I put all the commands into
a script file that made it easy to run.  I suppose I could also have
made that script run automatically at every boot, although I never got
around to it, it was easier just to run it whenever I rebooted.

I don't think there is an easy choice for wireless cards in linux at the
moment.  This post:

a few weeks ago suggested the Netgear WG511 was a good card to get, it's
one that I am considering changing to when I upgrade to 54Mb.

I have successfully used this card with driverloader (
http://www.linuxant.com/driver loader/ ) loading the Dlink windows driver
under Mandrake 10, however driverloader is not free and my 30 day trial
ran out.

I have been unsuccessful getting the opensource NDISwrapper  (
http://ndiswrapper.sourceforge .net/ ) to work loading either the Dlink
drivers or the sugested RTL8180L drivers with modifications to the .inf
file.  In the case of the second driver, it loaded and recognised the
card, but would not accept the SSID of the network to connect to.

help of driverloader. I thinking about to buy another card. Any
