E Drive refuses to read DVDs.

My E Drive has decided to ignore DVD-r discs in it, preventing me from burning movies. I have absolutely no idea why it's doing this.

Any help?

Maybe problem is that the lens of your DVD is dirty or maybe totally retiring. Because know what? CD/DVD writing wont last for a long period of time, theres also a limitation in burning. If you think that I am wrong Kindly try this:

* Clean the lens with CD/DVD cleaner
* Open the your dvd drive and clean the lens manually with cotton [also look for any damage on the board of the drive]

Hope it help!

Why won't my acer 3100 accept a dvd-r

Either
* your "optical" device can only read CDs, not DVDs;
* it should read DVDs, but something is "dead", and the device is not performing as it should
* you need to install software to "play" a DVD-movie.

Define "will not accept" -- can you hear the drive spin the disc?
Does any program "auto-start" on your computer, when a DVD disk is inserted?

The Easiest Way to Use DVD Shrink

DVD Shrink is a freeware DVD transcoder program for Microsoft Windows that uses a DVD ripper to back up DVD movies. The final versions are 3.2.0.15 (english) and 3.2.0.16 (german), all other versions like DVD Shrink 2010 are scams. As commercially-released video DVDs are typically dual layer one of DVD Shrink's functions is to process the video into lesser quality and/or discard extra content such as foreign-language soundtracks so as to fit on a single layer (4.7 GB) DVD.

DVD Shrink is freeware, and it is only to be used to create backup copies of DVDs you already own. It is illegal to make copies of rented or borrowed DVDs, or to copy them and sell them for profit. The reason we need DVD Shrink is because a regular DVD movie doesn't fit on the average 4.7gig size DVD disc, we use DVD Shrink to cut the contents down to size as to fit on the disk.

This article will provide you how can you use DVD Shrink to copy DVD movies step by step. All you need is a DVD Shrink software and you will be able to store and duplicate all your DVD discs.
To use DVD Shrink, Things you will need:
* DVD Shrink program
* A DVD movie to backup
* DVD blank disc

Guide: How to Use DVD Shrink 3.2

Step 1. Start the DVD Shrink Program and choose Open Disc from the menu above.

Step 2. A box will appear. Choose which DVD drive your disk is in. Mine is in F: drive. The name of the disk will show up in brackets. In this case it is called NEW.

Step 3. Press OK. It will read the DVD.

Step 4. Shrink DVD size.
1) A breakdown of the movie will be displayed in the right hand column.
2) You cannot fit all this on your blank dvd so now press Re-author.
3) In the right column there will be a heading called Main movie. There will be a file under this heading. Drag this to the left column. The file size is usually more than 4,700mb and has to be compressed.

Step 5. Click on the "Backup" icon. This is where you will choose a folder for your ripped files. Once the rip is complete, the movie can be burned to a DVD-R automatically via DVD Shrink using NERO. Or if you have different DVD-burning software, you can open that manually and burn the ripped files as you normally would.

Here we also recommend you the best DVD Copy software, 1CLICK DVD COPY PRO, which is a fast, easy-to-use, full featured program for copying DVD movies onto DVD discs. I have a movie in windows media player. How do i burn to cd or dvd

Hi there..

Windows Media Player does not support burning movies to video DVD discs. It does support burning data DVD discs, which could contain music and video files. However, data DVDs are typically not compatible with most home DVD players. Check your DVD player documentation for details.

What does "multi layer support" mean. Does it write multi layer discs? or is it able only to read them? Also, what is a lightscribe?

Multi-Layer support means the drive can Read/Write a Dual-Layer discs.

Lightscribe means you can create a label on a disk.

Are you trying to burn a dvd? If so from the spec you gave in the problem description your drive will burn cds(CDRW) but will only play dvds(DVD). If it stated DVDRW then you would be able to burn DVDs as in the CDRW.

My dvd burner doesn't burn dvds

You need to check that with blank DVD's you are using compatible with your drive.Because the DVD's may work with your extranal drive but not with your builting drive. If this doen't slove the problem I would recommend using a different burning software other than "sonic record now" and "vista o/s Built-in dvd burner".

LG HL-DT-ST DVDRAM T10N ATA DRIVE

Various issues can cause drives to occasionally balk at writing optical discs. These run the gamut of physical, hardware, and software troubles.

Inappropriate or dirty media may be to blame. Make sure to match the type of recordable disc to the drive, and check each disc for fingerprints or other contaminants. If a disc is dirty, wipe it with a clean, soft cloth in a straight line from the center hole outward. Try a quality optical drive cleaning disc if you suspect dust contamination on the drive’s laser lens.

Some discs don’t perform well with certain drives, even within their rated speeds. Try recording at a slower speed and then with a different brand of disc. Also, on PCs, verify that the temporary file storage area on the hard drive used by the burning software has enough free, defragmented space. Allocate at least 5GB for a DVD (9GB for a double-layer [DL] disc) and about 1GB for CD burning.
