I had found this information before but the following link is missing : (nps05345) (in English) for more information on Scanned images have a colored tint or have vertical streaks when using the ADF.

Also, the lamp looks good and strong to the full length of it. I have removed the glass cover and wiped clean what I could. I dont know where the image reader is so that I could clean it. Do I have to remove the lamp ? I am not sure how to remove the lamp.

    Thanks

Cleaning all the mirrors inside did fix the brown stripes. Thanks a lot :)

These brown stripes on the right and left hand edge of the scan window are caused by smoking near the scanner. The front side mirrors located on the moving scan head need to be cleaned. You can accomplish this by removing the top of the scanner which includes the glass. Remove the clip that tensions the small but long cogged belt. Don't worry about repositioning the assembly correctly, the scanner will reset its position information when it initializes. Once the mirrors are removed, do not handle the mirrored surfaces excessively. Clean very carefully with some liquid soap and set on a clean towel. Dry with clean cotton balls and alcohol if required. Reinstall in their proper locations, making sure the clips hold the mirrors in the correct position. Replace the belt and tensioning clip. Replace the top of the scanner.
Start up the scanner and let it initialize. You should be off an running.

I have read it myself & this should help fix your problem of stripes on each side of scanned image. ( the color will vary ).
Post back if you haven't found this to help!

That I didn't check the link to nps05345 & your correct the link was missing. Suggest you change the size of the scanned images. Hp's software allows you to preview the image after scanning. You have the option to resize the image by left clicking & hold on a corner of a prescanned image & moving it to it's max size. Even if this image is 81/2 x 11". Notice if the stripes are still there. If so, reduce the size of image & check. I did call Hp but they would not talk with me because the 6300c is too old. I have a HP 5510 all in one & have had this problem. After checking Hp's site I found it lacking proper information. In my case I removed all software & cleaned my system & my registry. Than reinstsalled my software. Haven't had that problem since. That was back in late 06. I didn't suggest that for you but it is an option. Rather than using the CD that came with your scanner you might be better off downloading what is dated newer. Sorry it did not work out.

My HP Scanjet 6300c Flatbed Scanner does not work

It is not likely that there will be driver support for Windows 7.

That scanner is not even on Microsoft's compatibility list for Windows 7 and is listed as unknown on the compatibility list for Windows Vista

There was no driver support for Windows Vista listed on HP support page as well so it is unlikely HP will develop and Windows 7 driver.
