1. Adjust the antenna for better reception.
2. Some electronic euuipment can create electrical noise, which can interfere with TV reception. So move TV away from other electronic equipment.

The black bar you had mentioned in your title points to a pulse on the jungle Ic. The black bar is prob intermittent and does not happen all the time. You can replace the Jungle Ic and it will most likely clear up a lot of your prob this is IC301 on the A board and the part number is 8-752-095-96 personally I would replace the A board to make sure the whole prob is taken care of this is part number A-1298-841-A it would be more apt to fix all of your problems the A board will run you about 175 dollars so it might not be worth it. The Jungle Ic on the other hand is about 25 dollars so its worth a shot.

Hi,

It may not be the TV but rather interference, have you checked your cable connection?

One way to verify if it is the TV or your cable is to install an old VCR using its RF OUT connected to the ANT/Cable IN of your TV. Play a known good video tape and set TV to either Ch. 3 or 4. If problems persist, it is the TV (possibly tuner) if not, it is your cable connection.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned out or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Hi,

If you observe horizontal lines then the problem is with Vertical amplifier unit and needs to be replaced. And you also said that the picture is Ghost then the problem is with STK IC'S even that needs replacement and you have to call a technician to get it done.
However you can try this method once, Do the reset test Disconnect the power cord for 4 hours. Then when you power it back up the internal soft codes will automatically reset to factory defaults.

Goodluck,
Please don't forget to rate me as fixya..

So finally i just want o say that since you don't have a problem with dvd then It is a malfunction of the vertical blanking circutry which is
supposed to blank out while retracing to keep the horizontal retrace
from showing during that period. It is a function of the 'jungle chip',
one of the main processors in the tv. It requires a tech to take
measurements to identify the correct malfunction as there are many
    parts associated with this process.

We have a Philips Magnavox Model #TP3284C101 TV and plugged in a Durabrand DVD Model #DVD1002 player to it. It will only play in black and white on this TV. But when we plug the DVD player into another TV...

It sounds like you have a standard problem.
Is the TV you are using, that gives the black and white picture, the same as the other ie, both NTSC or PAL and both on RGB or Y-C or S-Video?
Check to see what is required and set the DVD player accordingly.
Hope that helps.

Toshiba 26AV502U (new) video dropout if VHS tapeis not perfect

Had problem checked by local outfit called "Circuit Pro"; their analysis was compatibility.
Actual answer was that the Toshiba required a better quality input from "any" VHS source.
I finally took a "less than perfect" VHS tape with me when I returned the Toshiba TV to the store and demonstrated the problem to one of the TV sales people. He played the VHS tape through a display VHS/DVD player to three different brands of TV. The picture was often "black screen" on a Toshiba, but was merely poor quality on the other two brands. I upgraded to a Sony KDL26M4000 from the Toshiba 26AV502U.

Prima HDTV has a black screen on TV, but works fine while Playing DVD

try turning the channel up or down with the tv remote to input 1 or 2 depending on which one is being used for the dvd player. tv should use input 1. dvd should be on input 2.
when turning the channel set it to show the dvd screen, then go up 1. if it doesn't show, return and go down 1.

Black vertical bars on left side of screen

Hi

when you are using DVD, there is no problem directly indicate the problem is in video game. You can try by changing colour system of the TV (PAL,NTSC etc..) or the video game to fix the problem.

Thanks

Perfect picture on TV, DVD and VCR, but no color means you have selected the wrong color system.Since you are in the UK, make sure that the VCR Color system is also set to PAL. Perhaps it is wrongly set to SECAM?
