Question about Kodak EASYSHARE 5500 All-In-One InkJet Printer
It will copy/print but if i put in a pic and hit scan then start. the on/off light flashes then it quits 1 min ltr with no pic scaned
Similar scan problem as 5100 and 5300 models. Error Code 1 -2036 Scan could not be completed. This occured after I had been scanning, & then Vista crashed (BS of D) & when it restarted nothing but errors. Shut down unit restarted, no change, rebooted no change,
Go to Control Panel
Double Click on Printers and Other Hardware
Double Click on Scanners and Cameras
Double Click on Kodak 5100 AiO
Read and follow directions
It ain't rocket science

O.K here's what I did. So my stupid kodak printer/scanner (just the scanner) wouldn't work on my quad core vista system (i guess the software wasn't tested and debuged for vista, lazy cheap kodak...) and their tech support is reading scripts and instructions written for XP not vista because the software is outdated, so ... uninstall the useless spyware-laden chunk of software kodak gave you with the printer ( leave the drivers, you need em' ) then if you go into start/programs/ windows photo gallery (a cool program included with vista), you can scan from this software by opening it, going under (file) then choose (import from scanner) the scanner setup screen comes up and it is barebones but way better then the coaster that kodak gave me with my aio printer and now I can scan again!!! with my scanner!!! stupid kodak.

The 1-2036 problem is a Kodak HomeCenter software error. You will find that you can scan with other aplications that can access the scanner's twain driver. Try the scanner and camera wizard if you use XP or use Paint if you have Vista. Kodak's software developers have not been able to resolve the problem over the past year so dont waste your time reloading and tweaking.

Well guys after loads of **** from Kodak it would appear the main memory chip was cleared but to get the memory put back was beyond anything they knew about so after many many installs reinstalls wipeds etc ect I finally found the solution ....I bought a different all in one printer from another company which works first time out of the box no probs at all ,as for the Kodak piece of **** it has been taken down the recyling unit- Good riddance to the Kodak I will never buy Kodak again!

I had an old Dell AIO printer driver still installed on my computer. I removed that from Add/Remove programs, restarted. Then I ran the Kodak AIO software in "Repair" mode and restarted again. Everything is now working as should. I also sent this information to the Koday techs since I spent HOURS on the phone with them and they never mentioned checking on old printer drivers.....

This could be an issue from your USB cable or motherboard chipset. If you have a seperate USB hub you could connect between the PC and the Printer it might help. Or if you have another usb cable lying around try switching cables. There are known issues with some intel chipsets and high power devices and adding the USB hub between the PC and the printer could fix it. Also make sure you have the latest Firmware and software from Kodaks site.

I think solution #2 not only reinstalls the program, but also installs microsoft .net framework 2.0. This was my problem when I had the error and could not scan (except from the panel on the scanner). I had .net framework 2.0 service pack one and uninstalled it, and then installed the other version, and got control of my scanner again. Yay! Kodak doesn't seem to want to take suggestions, though about it or, participate in the better business bureau to complain about them, so boo to you for not updating your printer drivers for .net compatibility.

I fixed my error code 1-2036 by going to the "Configure Settings" in the AiO Home Center then selected AiO Printer changed to "Print Quality" to Draft and clicked OK.... Then I was able to Scan with no errors. I think the config settings were corrupted some how and this resaved them properly.

OK, weird as it gets, Installed Picassa. Picassa invokes the Kodak software to scan using the 5500 without problems. Trying it from the Kodak desktop icon still gives the "Scan could not be completed" error.
Sent this info to the Kodak Techs, no info from them.
