SMART is used to measure your HDD health. It warns you of impending failure of your hard drive. If it goes down, it's a good idea to backup important stuff and prepare to replace the HDD.

S.M.A.R.T is an acronym for Self-Monitoring, Analysis and Reporting Technology systems (SMART) and it's usually built in to most modern ATA and SCSI hard disks.

SMART Failure Predicted on Hard Disk 0: st9100824as-(s1)) WARNING: Immediatelly back-up your data and replace you hard **** drive. A falure may be imminent. Press F1 to continue

Hi sqarrab,

A SMART Drive failure indicates that your hard disk is about to die. Sometimes it will last a few says, sometimes even months. Refer the link below for more information.

I suggest you keep a backup of all your data as soon as possible. Once the hard disk fails, there's nothing you can do to get your data back. To get rid of the message, buy a new hard drive, and then copy back all your data.

DELL Studio 1737, last week my computer shut down and now all I have is a message that states the following....SMART Failure Predicted on hard disk 0: WDC WD3200BEVT-75ZCT2-(S1)......WARNING: Immediately...

It sounds like the failure message is saying your hard drive is about to lose sector 0. But if you press F1 it will let you continue your boot and then you can backup your computer.

You can just do the system backup to a set of DVD's as instructed by the dell restore disk creator program. I have done this for my mothers home pc and works pretty well. Then when the HD does finally fail you can replace it and reload your system with the newly made restore disks.

Acer Aspire 5100: SMART Failure on Hard Disk 4

Hello there,

As per experience, SMART Utility will check your HDD for any errors that may occur.

I backed up everything and replaced a new HDD and got rid of the error.

Opened up the problematic HDD and noticed a very light scratch on its "platters".

As for me. Never ignore this warning before something might happen to your HDD and lost important data.

SMART FAILLURE PREDICTED ON HARD DISK O:WDC WD800BEVS-22RSTO-(S1) WARNING: IMMEDIATELY BACK-UP YOUR DATA AND REPLACE YOUR HARD DISK DRIVE. A FAILURE MAY BE IMMINENT. PRESS F1 TO CONTINUE

Well this error message means that the automatic drive checking software that runs all the time has detected that the drive is failing, either the electronics or the media. You need to backup any data to a DVD or external drive. The press F1, is so you can continue on and do so. You can burn/copy the data to DVD or copy to a USB hard Drive. Then you will need to get a new drive and reinstall your Operating System & data again.
