That thermostat must be used with a THM5421C1008 Equipment Interface Module. The thermostat communicates with the module and the module is connected to the HVAC components.

I am wiring a honeywell thermostat model number ct87n if I select fan on the fan runs when out on auto /heat nothing but if I put on auto / cool and adjust the dial to a low setting the hea comes on....

there is it all depends on how many strands of wire are in there, they start at 2 wire and go to i think 8 wire and maybe more.
The wires are as follows:
1. red = power to stat.
2. green = fan control
3. blue or yellow = ac
4. white = heat
w1 = 1st. stage heat
w2 = 2nd. stage heat.
i am on line if you have any questions. wally

I printed out the instructions for your thermostat. It looks like you should have the following.

There should be jumper wire between Rh & Rc

Red wire to Rh or Rc whichever is easier since there is a jumper. This is the hot wire and all the thermostat does is connect to route it to the components needed for heating or cooling.

Blue wire, tape it up and don't use it. There is no spot on this thermostat for it. It is only used on thermostats that are powered by the transformer.

White wire to W. Powers the heat relay

Yellow wire to Y. Powers the cooling contactor

Green wire to G. Powers the indoor fan relay

There is a black jumper on the back of the face plate. Look at section 2.4 Setting J2 Jumper in the installation instructions. Make sure you have it in the right position for what you have. If you don't have them just google them.

Hope this helps.

Need wiring diagram for Honeywell RCT8100

The old thermostat has a second stage heat which is W2. The new one doesn't have second stage heat.
The wiring your describing on the old thermostat is telling me you have a heat pump with second stage heat and the new thermostat is for air conditioning only. You will need to get a thermostat for a heat pump.

How do you wire a honeywell round mechanical thermostat

What are you trying to wire up?
Typical Thermostat Wiring for 4 or 5 wire Heat/Cool Thermostat (not heat pumps)
4 Wire Termostat
R = Red One Side of 24 volt Transformer
G = Green Blower
Y = Yellow Cool
W = White Heat
5 Wire Thermostat
with one transformer for both units
Rc One Side of 24 volt Transformer
Rh Jumper Rc to Rh
G = Green Blower
Y = Yellow Cool
W = White Heat
5 Wire Thermostat
With 2 transformers one for indoor unit
And one for outdoor unit
Rc = Red One Side of (outside) 24 volt (outside transformer)
G = Green Blower (outside transformer)
Y = Yellow Cool (outside transformer)
Rh = Blue One side of (inside) 24 volt (inside transformer)
W = White Heat (inside transformer)
COOLING ONLY Thermostat
R = Red One Side of 24 volt Transformer
G = Green Blower
Y = Yellow Cool
HEATING ONLY
R or Rh One Side of 24 volt Transformer
W = White Heat

You need to open up the panel at your furnace(air handler) and find the terminal strip and see what your existing thermostat wires are connected to. Normally your red wire connects to the R terminal(24 volts), the yellow wire to the Y1 terminal(cooling), the white wire to the W1 terminal(heating), the green wire to the G terminal(indoor fan). You can use whatever color of wire you have existing, just make sure that the R,W1,Y1,and G wires at the furnace match the R,W1,Y1, and G terminal screws at the thermostat. Also make sure the power to the furnace(air handler) is turned off before you make any wiring connections at the thermostat or furnace.This is very important! If you don't and you short any wires to ground(especially the R wire) you will possibly ruin the system step down transformer or blow the low voltage fuse.

Installing thermostat - extra wire?

you have to go down to your furnace and follow the thermostat wire ...it connects to a terminal strip or fan centre...the color doesn;t really matter...installers mix and match all the time....look at the furnace wiring and mark it down...Red on "R"...Green on "Y" whatever it is...and connect it accordingly upstairs...if you only have 4 thermostat wires downstairs you will need a jumper wire between RH and RC...if you have 5 wires you will see 2 wires on "R" at the furnace.,...and connect either to RH and RC at the thermostat

Your house might be older.  Are your receptacles two-prong, or three?
I would ignore the missing "G" wire, and connect Red to both Rc and Rh, and Y to Y, and W to W.
