Xbox 360 DNS failure

unless a 360 has a modem built into it, you're gonna need one. also, you may need to set up an Xboxlive account to do ANYTHING. check your settings on the console as well to make sure things are working.

Xbox live

2 Solutions-----

Number 1 - If your ethernet cord is going from a modem straight to your 360, then get your modem replaced by your ISP.
This will probobly be free, but if your charged, it will be a small fee.

Number 2 - If you have it going to a routerfrom a modem, then go to your 360 main screen, scroll to the far right 'System' blade, select the 4th choice 'Network Settings', and test your Xbox LIVE Connection. It will ask you to sign out. Select yes.

Results should come up (for wired router)

Network Adapter - Wired
Wireless Network - (Left Blank)
IP Address - Confirmed
DNS - Confirmed
MTU - Confirmed
ICMP - Confirmed
XBOX LIVE - Confirmed
NAT - (either moderate, opened, or strict)

If all those are the same, the problem has nothing to do with the xbox itself and you need a new router, or modem.

If results come out to be
''Network Adapter - Disconnected''
After test is run (and your 360 is connected properly to your router AND modem then you have a hardware problem. Whether the problem is in the 360 or the router/modem is easy to test.

Connect the modem directly to the 360 via ethernet. If this fixes the problem, the router is fail.

If you can get on the internet wirelessly and grounded on a computer, the 360 is busted.

Sorry it took me so long to explain that, but i hope it helps you.

Best of luck

Xbox 360 live DNS test failed

if you are connecting directly to the modem, then you are going to need to get the dns info from your ISP. If you have a router just put the router address or let it find it automatically. Also check that the router has the right dns settings from the ISP.

Help settin up xbox live.

If you had a computer connected to this modem, it would also tell you that the DNS failed and you wouldnt be able to access the internet. This happened to me before. The DNS server is a problem on your internet service provider's side. Make sure that the modem is running properly. Also, if you still cant solve the problem, you can call them up, they may be able to fix the problem over the phone, if not, it could very much be a faulty modem. (They arent always perfect when they are manufactured and tend to die quickly.)

Dns

Try calling XBOX customer support. They will know exactly how to fix your problem. Their number is 1-800-4MY-XBOX. (1-800-469-9269). This is the best way to fix this problem because the technicians are certified and they know what to do.

Hope this helps,

CAN"T SIGN IN TO XBOX LIVE

You might not have been banned. Not being able to connect to the DNS or having it fail can be caused by a few things:
The DNS address serves couldn't be reached
The info on the DNS server couldn't be snagged from your ISP or the DHCP server
The DNS values in the dashboard are wrong.

I don't want to come off like I am insulting your intelligence, but check your internet connection to make sure you have the ability to connect. I'm sure it is all in proper order. So the next thing you need to do is check to see if you IP is set and passes all the tests. If it isn't then you can click the more link on the test page to follow the directions on how to fix it.

You may also want to check out if you are using a XBOX live compatible ISP. Click on Learn More to see if you are using the right ISP or to adjust your settings. You can also check out the connectivity wizard to find out if there are some other issues revolving around this.

Still running into problems!?!?!? try running the modem directly into your XBOX. This has helped me in a few time of need.
