Question about Magellan Roadmate 760 GPS Receiver

Magellan Roadmate 760

The rodamte 760, I purchased about 13 months a go. when I turn it on it just keep on serching for signal. I called technical support and they told me to go into configeration and then initialize it. I must say Magellan has the worst ever customer service and technical support team. It is very difficult to understand them. Half of the people I spoke with barely spoke any English. Talk about getting really cheap spport, call magellan. I must have called about four times and each time they tell me to do the same thing. Then one of the technical support rep told me that he can offer a trade in for similar magellen which would cost $579. that is rediculous I can get that exact same model locally for $371. Talk about riping people off. I would not recommednd this product to anyone. They are the biggest rip offs.

I do not know what to do with my unit.

the 760 must have some tech problems-they are lemons!!!!!

  • Anonymous Feb 17, 2008

I have had exactly the same problem (which is still not repaired) and upon calling tec support, have the same story to tell about tech. They are absolutely terrible.

All I can say is "DITTO".....My Magellan Roadmate 760 fails to find satellites when I need it most....in congested city driving. Called tech support, reinitialized, and it worked for a day. Next day, same procedure wouldn't work. Following day, it did. Not very reliable or dependable, which I need it to be. How does one overcome this problem, short of buying a Garmin? Need help soon, as I am planning a 3 month trip across US and need to have a GPS that works properly all the time. Is there a solution to having Magellan find its way without having to re-initialize every time you plug it in? (and hoping that it will initialize?)

YES.. do a search for Daniel.. wait.. that's ME!! and while your at it send me some money!! hah.. I'm j/k.. (unless you want to of course). It does appear that I am the last and only option for tech support on these products. It is much easier/quicker to look at my previous post's rather then waiting for me to respond individually as I have a full-time job like most of you as well.

All,

Search for solutions from Daniel, one of the experts. He said you can do a hard reset by pressing the zoom out and repeat buttons simultaneously at the user screen which will invoke a hidden menu. Select "reset GPS user data". If this does not solve the problem, Carefully open the unit, maybe 1/2 inch at first because of the RF cable (grey or black wire going between PCB's). Check if one end is un-connected, either un-snapped or the solder broke.

Calling tech support as i did was a complete waste of time but i learned something about myself....I have an incredible amount of patience!!!

Even when the tech guy said he could not help me but he suggested that I spend an additional $200 for a new unit with the $1000 model 760 as a trade in.!!!!

Good luck...

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

I have a garmin nuvi and the cable that you put into your cigarette lighter will not work. I changed the fuse and it still will not keep the unit charged. I can charge it on my computer with a usb cable....

Do you see a lightning bolt symbol over the battery bar graph? This indicates that its charging. If it's under warranty, please contact Garmin on their website. www.garmin.com and call them. No need to worry about this if its under warranty. Send them your charger too.

Missing bluetooth software

The 300 does NOT have bluetooth. See this Garmin link:

https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?pID=339

The 360 has bluetooth. In order to have bluetooth, you must have the main board inside that has the bluetooth circuitry AND the firmware to support it. The 300 does NOT have the circuitry for bluetooth.
