Question about 3Com NBX® V3000 (3C10600BUS)

1 Answer

Nbx v3000 After the system is turned on, the power light keeps blinking, I am unable to connect to it thru the browser. I went in with a terminal emulation and saw that the IP address is 192.168.1.190, but I am assuming that the blinking power light is a problem?

I HAVE THE SAME EXACT PROBLEM BUT I AM SURE THE POWER SUPPLY IS NOT THE PROBLEM.THE NBX (3COM V3000) CAN NOT LOAD THE CONFIGURATION FILE . VIA SERIAL CONNECTION WITH HYPER TERMINAL I SEE THAT DURING THE BOOT PROCESS THE DEVICE CAN NOT LOAD THE CONFIGURATION.IS THERE A WAY TO IDENTIFY THE CONF FILE? CAN I RESTORE? WHAT SHOULD I DO? THE POWER LED STILL BLINKS.ANY IDEAS? THANKS ANYWAY.

This is just a part from the boot process of my 3COM NBX V3000 via Hyper terminal session.Maybe this output will help some experts to figure out the problem, maybe not! First, Bootloader version,OK, then SuperIO Initilization...OK,then Host PCI Initilization...DDRAM size:112 MBytes ,OK and then ERROR:Loading environment variables failed-storing and using defaults...Companion board found (0x6)...initializing...The power led is blinking always and the web interface is down. The problem took place after a faulty UPS power supply.(UPS is replaced by a new one but the NBX is still out of order) Is there a memory problem? a hard disk ? Any ideas?

The problem is in the Hard Disk Drive file system (a
    corrupted file or more)

The disk in NBX is divided in two partitions , one DOS
    FAT16 and one HTFS .

The problem appears in the HTFS partition. Here is the
    error message during the boot.

    " i18n system initializing

    assertion failed: ga->ia_nblocks == 0, file:
    indx_iops.c, line: 562 "

There is an error in the HTFS during the boot , finally
    the NBX prompts : v3000->

At this point I have typed some basic commands
(version,ll,pwd, devs) to see which is the working directory , what kind of
devices the NBX has,the version it runs and a list of files and directories in
    the HTFS partition.
I also typed the command diskInit "\htfs 0", to check the disk
    file system, but no luck.

The DOS (FAT 16) partition seems to be ok , no errors.(I
can see the files and I can copy them )

I did not try to mount the HTFS drive in a Unix PC
.(without knowing what to do exactly-dangerous!)

The task list contains the FTP & Telnet server(are running) but the WEB interface no.(off)

So,is there a chance to fix
the corrupted file (or the whole HTFS partition)?

Unfortunately i think that i have to forget the NBX and try
to find a different VOIP/SIP solution for my company communication.Because i had a real hard time trying to find in forums a solution about recovering htfs file system.

In any case , thank you for your time and interest
    .

We had a power outage last night and I have not been able to successfully restart my 3Com V3000 server. I have powered it down several times, waited several minutes before restarting, but it just shows...

After you power it up LEAVE IT ALONE for at least 45 minutes. When the NBX loses power abruptly it will do a disk scan upon reboot. The disk scan takes anywhere from 15 minutes to 45 minutes (depnding on the size of the database). You can connect to the console and see it doing a disk scan when you boot it back up. It will go through 6 phases and then boot up normally. Each time you pull the plug you risk database corruption (or hard drive failure on an older system).

Nbx V3000 will not allow me to change extension number on new phone.

If the extension is already in use on the system you wont be able to assign it to another phone. You can change the conflicting Ext. to something else (not in use) and then use the one you wanted. There are also specific ext. ranges that you have to abide by.

We have a 3Com NBX V3000. The building our office

This was a rather simple fix. When I was speaking about the NBX V3000, I was talking about our 2U NBX Chassis which holds the line card. When our phone system was installed I wasn't shown the 1U NBX V3000 "Brain". I thought everything was contained in the chassis. Long story, short, I restarted the 1U "Brain" and the system came back up with 5 minutes.

Hi I have a 3Com NBX V3000 and i forgot the password what I can d

You must make sure to use the correct username. The only username that can be used for administrator is administrator (ALL LOWER CASE). It is case sensative and can not be capitalized. You typically have to open a case with 3Com to get the current password. There is no "backdoor" way to gain access or change the password but if you have console access to the system you can enter the nbxDb command and get an encrypted password. If the system is running a software version 4.0 and older then the password is unencrypted and you are done. I can get the encrypted password decrypted if needed.

Are you trying to forward calls in circular from 1 extension to the next. Like 101 to 102 back to 101. If not I would purge the database and start over. Export user data so you can see the Mac address of each phone and it will be easy to reconfigure the extensions. Do not import the Data. Start from scratch.
