Where is this transistor located? I have the service manual. This is my first attempt at tv repair. Is it a pretty good bet that the transistor is bad? I have a multimeter. I am having trouble figuring out how to ground it to get good readings. The only thing I have figured out is putting the negative in the wall socket ground and I am able to read for 115 to the power cord junction at the circuit card. How would I check this cap? Should I just replace the cap and see what happens?

I have plenty of experience working with live ciruits just not at the ciruit card level. I am capable of pulling the board and having a pro put the parts on for me. If it would make you feel more comfortable I won't mess with it live anymore.

If you are concerned with my comment about sticking the negative lead in the ground on the wall socket, I am aware that this is not a safe practice. I can do this. Please help me.

My best advice to you is for you to take your set to a tv repair shop before you get hurt ,these tvs carry some very high voltage and if you get across RF voltage it can kill you!

The capacitor that you are looking for is small blue cap 2kv the hori out put is next to your Flyback Transfomer it will be solder in by 10-11 pins holding it in circuit it has 1 wire going to high voltage trippler/other wire goes to screen drive control also look for open pico fuses.

No Video Or Sound - Stand By Light Flashes 5 Times

If the tv was made before December 2008, there is a capacitor settlement from a class action lawsuit by Samsung. Supposedly (at no charge) they will send a repairman to replace the capacitors.

I have a 4 year old Sony KDF-E42A10 television - the power/standby light blinks red 5 times, pauses, blinks red 5 times again, etc. I have replaced the lamp previously when the light was blinking red 3...

Hi there,
5 blinks means there is a problem with the video board. It could be as simple as unplugging everything, includding power. Wait 3 minutes then plug power only back in. Or it may be a damaged component that requires replacing.
Hope this helps

52 inch panasonic projection tv won turn on and flashes what appears to be a diagnostic code?

The most common error codes are when the set does not turn on the power light on the front blinks in a sequence---most common is 3 blinks, a pause and 3 blinks etc

If you have to, unplug the set and try to turn it on again and see what the sequence of blinks is.

Let me know what you find and I will try to tell you what it means.

Picture & sound go on & off every sec, red light blinks 5 times

helloFive blinks - AKB circuit (automatic kine bias), the timer/standby indicator blinks for about 30 seconds then goes to the self-diagnosis function. Something is wrong with the video. Check video out, Q705, 732, 761 and other components on the C board, also check Q218, 219, 220 on the A board. In addition, unit could be in IK blanking, try turning up screen slightly.
