Question about Westclox Presto 80199 Clock Radio

Open Question

Westclox Westminster Chime

The pendulum in my Westclox Westminster Chime clock has stopped swinging. I have tried fresh batteries trying to make it swing but it doesn't work anymore. I have tried to find new "guts" for it but cannot. Can you help?

SOURCE: changed battery and now pendulum wont swing

Give the pendulum a shove and do it every time you pass the clock. I got mine going from swinging for just 20 seconds to working permanently, at least until the next battery change.

I would open it up and look for a broken wire in the battery circuit, you could have a fuse in that circuit also.

It looks like your problem might be an easy fix, at least. If the gear train between the motor and clock got stripped, you'd be in a bit more trouble. If the motor just isn't spinning, remove it from the side of the clock housing. There are 2 screws (or nuts) holding it in place. When you get it off, the cover for the motor will also be off. Apply some 3 in 1 oil, or perhaps just a tiny bit of penetrating oil, and give it a spin. From what I've read, it should do just fine. A lot of people use wd40, but I understand that can gum up over time.

This is a "at your own risk" type of repair, but as long as you unplug it before dismantling the radio, I think you'll be fine.

Your radio should have come with a receiver of some sort for the radio signals to set itself. I had this same issue with my clock when the battery in the receiver died ... try replacing this too. It took me forever to figure out what it was because I had forgotten that it had its own radio receiver ... then once I remembered it existed, I had to find it, but replacing the battery fixed the problem. Hope that helps :-)
