Scanner do not run but printer does - Lexmark JetPrinter X1185 All-In-One InkJet

    My Lexmark X1185 worked perfectly until today! It no longer scans or makes copies.

Hi,

I suggest you;

1.) uninstall your X1185
2.) download the latest driver for the X1185 at
http://downloads.lexmark.com/cgi-perl/downloads.cgi?lxkprod=Lexmark+X1185
(Be sure to select the driver which corresponds to the Operating System you are running on your PC)
3.) reinstall the X1185 using the newly downloaded driver

My scanner wont work because I have run out of coloured ink - shouldnt I still be able to use the scanner??


having no ink should not affect the running of a scanner

make sure the scanner usb and power leads are securely seated

the drivers for the scanner might have been corrupted
you might have to uninstall the scanner restart your computer then reinstall your scanner
if your printer/scanner came with an installation disc the drivers could be on it
you might have to uninstall the printer/scanner restart your computer then reinstall the printer/scanner and its drivers

click start control panel administrative tools computer management device manager scroll to ports(COM&LPT) + to expand you should see a communication port and Ecp printer port you might see a yellow Question/exclamation ? ! mark or a red X this will mean you need to install a new driver for this device right click to update driver
select properties again you will have the similiar options also have option to troubleshoot

Control center 4 not showing all brother scanners installed in my network


I'm running into the same problem. I'm now under the impressions that certain scanners run under different versions of Control Center. I have Control Center 2, 3 and 4 running three different scanners with no obvious way to combine them into one control center.

Cant get the scanner software to work


Try reinstalling the software using the drivers from HP.com. If you go to HP.com and type in the model number into their search bar it will usually pull the printer right up. Then select drivers and downloads and find the software using your operating system. Simply download and reinstall the software and it should work just fine.

After running full system recovery I tried to reinstall my printer and scanner. I reinstalled my printer (HP Deskjet 870ces). Then tried to reinstall HP Scanjet 5100c on a machine running Windows XP Pro....


Some time printers and scanners conflict. Try this, uninstall both printer and the scanner, then install the scanner first and try it to see if it works. Then install your printer. If it doesn't work let me know I'll walk you through. Good luck :)

How do i use the scanner?


You might need to double check if the utility software has been installed properly. Run the utility program for your all-in-one printer and choose scanning option. Follow the instrusctions. Optionally you can place whatever you want to scan onto the scanner glass and hit scan button on the side of your printer. The scanning utility program should run automaticly.

All in One Scanner/Printer problems


Go to this link and type "cannot communicate with scanner" in the search box. Click Search. Then select the "ERROR: Cannot communicate with scanner" link. You will see several things to try to correct your problem. Usually, this error shows up if there is another USB device connected which prevents the computer from "seeing" the scanner, even though it can print without problem. So do try to disconnect any other USB device (except mouse or keyboard) and reboot the system.
