If your HP computer refuses to power down, this means that there are still programs open that Windows can't close. Normally when you select the "Shut Down" button from your "Start" menu, Windows closes all open programs, then closes itself, and your basic input/output system (BIOS) turns off all of your hardware. If Windows can't close all open programs, your computer won't be able to power off. This means that you must close these programs yourself.
Right-click on the window of an open program on your Windows taskbar (Bottom of Screen) Click "Close Window." Windows manually closes the program. If a window appears on-screen indicating that Windows cannot get the program to close, click the "Force Close" button in this window to have Windows force the program to shut down. Repeat "Step 1" for any additional programs that are open on your computer. Click "Start." Click "Shut Down." Hope this helps.
Windows XP comes with its own firewall software, called Windows Firewall. While it's not as customizable as some other firewall programs on the market, there are quite a few things you can adjust in order to balance security with functionality. If you need to allow traffic into your network or onto your computer, you can set up an exception in the Windows Firewall to let a specific program have access, or to let communication occur on a specific port.<br />
<br />
To set up a firewall exception in Windows XP, follow the steps below.<br />
<br />
1. Open the Control Panel (usually found on the Start menu).<br />
<br />
2. Double click on the Windows Firewall icon.<br />
<br />
3. When the Windows Firewall window appears, make sure the firewall is on and the box marked "<i>Don't allow exceptions</i>" is unchecked.<br />
<br />
4. Go to the Exceptions tab.<br />
<br />
5. If the software you want to set an exception for appears on the list of programs and services, then all you have to do is put a check next to it and click OK. Otherwise, if you want to create an exception for a program, click Add Program, and for a port, click Add Port.<br />
<br />
6. For a program, you can either select the program you want from the list that appears, or you can click Browse to find the program on your computer. For a port, enter the name you want to call the exception (which can be just the port number if you want) and then below that type in the TCP or UDP port number. (If it is a UDP port, select UDP below the port number.)<br />
<br />
7. Click OK to create the exception.<br />
<br />
8. Click OK again to save the change.
Windows Firewall protects your computer by blocking communications (i.e., bugs and malicious software) attempting to connect to your computer. Sometimes, Windows Firewall will block a program that you use from connecting to the Internet. If you are experiencing this problem, but you are still able to browse the Web (demonstrating that it's not a general problem with your Internetconnection), you can add a Windows Firewall exception for the program that's having problems. This will allow you to use that program without Windows Firewall blocking it.
Setup Steps - Windows XP
Click Start. Click All Programs and find the program that you want to add an exception for. Then right-click the program and click Properties.
On Shortcut tab in the Properties dialog box, right-click the Target box, and then click Copy.
Click Cancelto close the Properties dialog box. Click Start, and then click Control Panel. From the Control Panel, click Security Centre From the Security Centre, click Windows Firewall. On the Exceptions tab, click Add Program In the Add a Program dialog box, click Browse- > (IE7) In the Browse dialog box, right-click the File name box, then click Paste. Click Open. Click OK. Windows Firewall adds an exception for your program. Click OK again.

In the Add a Program dialog box, click Browse.
In the Browse dialog box, right-click the File name box, then click Paste.
Click Open.
Click OK.
Windows Firewall adds an exception for your program. Click OK again.
* When you add a program to the exception list, you enable the firewall to open ranges of ports that could change every time the program is run. To add a program exception, follow these steps: * Use an administrator account to log on. * Click Start, click Run, type wscui.cpl, and then click OK. * In Windows Security Center, click Windows Firewall. * On the Exceptions tab, click Add Program. * In the list of programs, click the name of the program that you want to add, and then click OK. If the name of your program is not in the list of programs, click Browse to locate the program, and then click OK. Note If you do not know where the program is located, contact the program vendor to determine the program location.
For information about your hardware manufacturer, visit the following Web site: http://support.microsoft.com/gp/vendors/en-us (http://support.microsoft.com/gp/vendors/en-us) * Click OK. * Test the program to verify that the firewall settings are correct.

Hi, if your trying to "Re-install the Norton Security Software, and you had a problem or error while "Installing"; do the following: check the "Firewall," check to see if the Firewall is blocking the "Program" from being downloaded. Next check to see if there is already a "Security" software setup on the computer that is "conflicting with the download / reinstalling. You may need to have someone that have experience in checking theses areas if you have trouble finding them. I'm going to give you direct instruction to go to these areas you need to check. First, click on the "Start Button" when the window open, look in the (right side pane area) find the "Icon, Control Panel, click on it to open. There will be alot of listings, choose the "Security; Allow a program through Windows Firewall." There will be (3) buttons in the "Top" area of the next window, select the "Exception" button, click on the "Add program..." the window will change again, scroll through the "Programs until you find "Norton Security" and "highlight' just click on it, and "Click on the OK button. Restart the computer open the "software" you want to "Install / Reinstall and select to Install; follow all the instructions. Now if there is another security software interfering with the install, you have to go back to the "control Panel again, select to open, in the next window click on the (Programs) "Uninstall a program," find the software (highlight to uninstall), once you are finished, restart the computer; this will fix everything properly, if all goes well. "I hope for the best! Rating the solution is appreciated if you found it helpful, thank you."
I don't have a solution for this problem. I have a comment. I have the same types of issues with my HP. I hate HP. Why is it that we can design software to remotely fly fighter jets but we can't get reliable software to print wirelessly? I am now going to throw my HP Photosmart C4580 All-in-One in the road.
hi
first of all I would like to inform you that you have one of the best printers of HP
now the open port error 427 that you get is generally due to blockage in network or firewall
so we need to first check weather the printer is successfully connected to the network or not
so press setup on printer go to network and then go to print network config page it will be on view network settings
now note the ipaddress on the wireless tab of the page
open a internet explorer and then type the ip address in the address bar and hit enter
the printer page should open up if it does that means the printer is on network
now turn off nortan firewall and turn on windows firewall
now click on the add exception tab of windows firewall
it vista it will be allow a programs through windows firewall
now click on add port
and in port name type the ip address of the printer
in port number type 427 and then select udp ot tcp according to the error message you get in the installation if its udp select udp if tcp select tcp
now in windows firewall click on allow programs through firewall and then in exception tab check all the entries related to hp
apply and ok
now restart the computer
now try to install
if still you get the same error
click next if you have next highlighted and go to the next step and select the third option from the screen
that will be contiue installing the printer
complete the installation
if the next is not highlighted then add an exception in nortan as well
for guidelines
open hp.com and in the search bar type c01633677
and open the document select nortan and see the instruction to add exception
if still problem persists let us know
Hi! i can understand your problem. It happened to me once. I tried to run the PC in the safe mode but on safe mode it doesn't run the antivirus program. If you have your harddisk of IDE type then connect your friend's hard disk in your PC as a Slave and Yours as a master.
You can do this from your bios setup.
Then Scan his hard disk by your antivirus software and remove all the virus from his Harddisk.
