F50 error code and Whirlpool Cabrio

My Whirlpool Cabrio is flashing F50 (F then 50) when it gets to a spin cycle. I have tried unplugging it to reset any codes/memory but it simply reappears.

I have the same problem. I can't figure out what is wrong.

  • RonRas Feb 23, 2008

I know a lot more now. F50 means motor stalled. In my case it means that the controller board (Part # W10122535 ) burned out. I had to get a new one sent out from Whirlpool (in transit).

haven't had the washer but about 35 days and error code f 50 keeps coming up

  • Anonymous May 31, 2008

same code here F50, the service manual is taped to the inside of the machine, it recommended (after a million checks) to replace the RPS sensor and if that didnt fix it the motor. I replaced both and it didnt work! Now I'm calling for service =(

My washer is 18 months old. It started with an intermittant F51 code. Service has been outtwice and keeps replacing parts. Now we have the F50 code. I wish I had done some research prior to buying this piece of junk. And Whirpool makes no attempt to properly diagnose and resolve the problems with these units. VERY FRUSTRATED!!! My recommendation is to stay away from Cabrio's.

the f50 code flashes everytime the washer gets to the spin cycle

  • Anonymous Aug 27, 2008

Our Cabrio is about 17-18 months old, today it started flashing the F 50 code and will not spin. Does anyone know if whirlpool is looking at any recall with this unit considering all of the errors that seem to be occuring now with these units (F 1 and F 51). Other sites are posting problems as well.

My Cabrio washer went on the fritz today displaying the F50 error code. I've got a machine full of wet clothers. The washer is only 14 months old. Called Whirlpool & they can't send A & E out until Friday. Just out of warranty & the best they can do is offer me, after I pay for trip charge, parts & labor, 10 additional months of free parts & labor. I'm sure it'll work again for 10 months at which time it'll break down again. I sure wish I'd done more research before my husband & I bought this disappointing washer.

f50 displays and the washer has not even completed filling with water

my cabrio is just 22 months old and it is doing the let water in but not ou and error f50

  • johnnyfab Dec 01, 2008

My cabrio is 24 months old, having the F50 problem.

I have had nothing but problems with this washer. Wished I bought a cheap washer, would have last longer.

  • Anonymous Dec 06, 2008

We have the same error F50 and F51. We made the error though, buying this piece.

  • kbjohnson Jan 10, 2009

I also have the F50 problem. I doesn't happen until it gets to where it needs to spin. Sometimes it will start working again if I reach in and give it a spin a few times. It kicks in occasionally. I also hate how this washer wraps blankets and towels up like bread dough. Can F50 mean many different things or only the "motor stalled" problem? If thats it, then I will order that part and fix it myself.

  • Anonymous Feb 23, 2009

My sister has this washer, as do I. Mine is 2 years old, hers is younger. She's had problems from the start......whirlpool is paying for her current problem as it appears to be a continuous problem for them. As for me, I am at home from work waiting on the repair man now...I have an "F" error code and the SD code. ARGH!

  • Anonymous Mar 27, 2009

I am so frustrated! I had an F1 error, had the service tech come out to look at it. They ordered the part then came back, installed it. While he was here checking the washer, the F50 error comes up. So now they have to order a new part and I have no washer, now going on two weeks! I am so frustrated with this and my washer is just over 2 years! My old cheap one lasted for years!!!

  • wilsonb17 Apr 11, 2009

yes.... F-50 in mine also.... the last 13 minutes of the spin. whats the deal, my washer is 36 months and yes.... out of warranteeeeeeeeee.

JUST SPOKE WITH WHIRLPOOL ABOUT THE F-50 CODE. THEY SAID THAT THEY ARE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AND THEY ARE PAYING TO FIX IT. ALSO THE CONTROLL BOARD AND THE RPS SENSOR MUST BE REPLACED TO FIX THE PROBLEM. THE OWNER MUST CALL WHIRLPOOL, NOT THE TECH, TO GET THEM TO PAY FOR IT. HOPE THIS HELPS.

Well, almost two weeks ago I got an F1 code, and SD code...no sud in the washer.  I did the dignotic test myself.  (of course this was on a Friday evening and Monday was Labor Day).  Now 3 visits later from a service guy and $225 it is running-for how long?  We'll see.  He said it was a F50 code and "fixed it", but it didn't work and then said it was now a F51 problem.  Who knows?  You are correct about Whirlpool...they don't care.

The f1 is a control board failure. If you pop the clamps on the front of washer and raise lid there is a failure code sheet w/ repairs on left side in a pocket

Well, I contacted Whirlpool because I had a f50 code. I bought this 18 months ago. They said that it would be covered and said I will need to transfer you to set up the call. She transferred me and they said they wont cover it because I bought it in 2001 and that is out of warranty. I told her no, bought it 18 mths ago I have the receipt. Then their story changes. It is a known problem and they refuse to stand behind their products. I will NEVER own another whirlpool product. I refuse to spend that kind of money on something and get less than 18 mths worth of wear out of it. We are just screwed! Should have bought a Maytag..lol!

I had the same F50 code, but when I called Whirlpool they wouldn't give any techical assistance. They just kept apoligizing and asking if I wanted to set up a service call that I would have to pay for. My washer is only 4yrs old. I read a lot about the F50 code on these blogs and decided to change the control board which fixed my washer, for now!!

My Cabrio top loader keeps giving me the error cods F 50. I have tried to reset it,uplug it,and still get the same error code.

The F50 error code indicates that the RPS (rotor position sensor) detects no motor rotation. Check to see if the basket spins freely. If not, you could have an item caught between the outer tub and the inner spin basket. A toy or other item underneath the washer could also prevent the basket from spinning and would result in this F50 code.

If the basket spins freely, you could have a wiring failure that would prevent the motor from spinning.

My whirlpool cabrio washer, is flashing F then 50. It will start back for a second then stop and start flashing that again. What can I do? WTW6300SW

The F50 error code is a stalled motor error. There is a part called a "Rotor Position Sensor" that sees the motor running. This error will display if it does not see motor movement during a cycle. You want to make sure that the spin basket turn freely.Turn the basket by hand and it should turn freely. If it does not turn freely then it could cause the F50 error. If the basket turns freely then the problem is most likely the main control or the Rotor Position Sensor has failed.I recommend having a technician to
check this problem.
