2003 Ford Focus Blaupunkt Cd Player iss...

By gotboost19 on Feb 07, 2008

" "
I tried to program a radio station into my blaupunkt cd player and the cd player started going crazy. It turns on and off intermittently, even when the car is off. I had to disconnect the battery just to get it to turn off. When turning on the cd player after the battery was disconnected and reconnected I had the same problem. I don't know if you can run a code on these or how to troubleshoot. This is the cd player with the six preset buttons and the big screen. Please help!!

Same Problem

-   My radio did the same thing yesterday so I am going to try this solution and if it does work would i be able to replace the stock radio with like a pioneer or something? Also the high idle problem i was told was because I had to reset my computer but that did not stop the constant shaking that occurs when I am i have the car on park or when i am at a complete stop. What can i do about the shaking?-   Guest

-   I have been having the same problem with my 2003 Ford Focus SE Blaupunkt single CD player. To be honest, I have had so many electrical problems this one does not surprise me. I'd just liek to get the stupid cd out before I trash the car.

-   I have same prob on my 2003 Ford Focus - Ford says its easily $300 to put in a brand new radio - they say that is the ONLY fix - I'm gonna try what ya said and cross my fingers that it works - i will be filing a formal complaint with the Better Business Bureau againt Ford - It seems obvious to me that they would know of this fix BUT still insist on customers buying a brand new radio when the problem in the first place is that they put in a faulty radio and refuse to recall!!!!!!!!!!!! Simply put I HATE FORD and will NEVER by another one again!!!-   Betheli

-   We started having the same problem with our 2003 Ford Focus as well. There has got to be some kind of issue with these radios in this specific year model.-   april0521

-   This happened to me last summer. I've been without a radio for four months. After reading and researching all I could find, I removed the fuse in order to get the stereo to stay off. After reading that I should reset the stereo to the factory settings, I reinstalled the fuse and tried, to no avail, to reset. For the most part the radio wouldn't stay on long enough for me to get to the reset mode. The few times I did make it to the reset, it just didn't work. I'm frustrated and want my stereo! What else can I try?-   jane755250

Pull fuse and count to ten. Re install fuse and be prepared to push eject. You might have to do this several times in order to initiate a reboot seq.

I hav an 03 and it exhibited the same problems; on off on off nothing works. I discovered this repair 2 days ago and it works perfectly and I am one happy camper.

1. Start by pulling the main fuse for the radio (if you already haven't)
2. Re insert the fuse and turn the radio on (nevermind the on off sequence). Insert a music CD, it will take one.
3. Pull the fuse again, count to five and re insert fuse.
4. When the CD starts to play, use the menus to get down to the factory default settings and ask it to reset to factory.
5. And you are now working again. Or you should be. It basically is a processor and it operates just like your home PC whn it needs a reload. It searchs to the default drive which is the CD player.

Good Luck everyone!

The Fix that may not work the first time . Is your blaupunkt giving you the blinking screen? Well if it is! This is for YOU just as above but with out poping out fuses hoping its the one. (Fuse 31) was not the one in my model.

Eject CD if one is in place if not insert one.
It may take a few tries but once you get the CD to play hit menu scroll to default settings using the knob thing on the left. Press knob you will here a pop sound.
That is just go on an rest your stations. Again as above stear clear of 107.9 -99.7 not sure why.
Repeat steps a few times it will work other wise its about 350 bucks to have it repaired and there is really nothing broke! But you if you go to the shop....

I just paid my last payment on my 2003 SE and this morning at 5 am it did this....this time it died.
I had issues before with it randomly setting each station to 107.9 even if the display read 99.7 or other. When I got around to the re-setting up my 6th station it showed 'NO' beeped repeatedly and started flashing off and on and acting like the CD player wanted to access...a CD that wasn't even there.
Had to pull fuse 31 (15amp) and now am searching a fix.
Five years of great use.
That was one KICK Butt CD player.
Best stock one I ever had.
Too Bad.

Pulling the fuse did not work for me. Whenever I turned the car off and then restarted the car, the radio would flash and only give me the clock. I had a CD in the radio and hit the eject button 3 times and the radio came on. Factory defaults did not work either. Hitting the eject button 3 times seems to be the best way that it works. It's still more of a pain than it should be but at least I don't have to pull fuses.

I want to second or third the fact that this solution works!! The radio in my 2003 Focus started flashing on and off when I was setting one of the stations. If you can manage to turn the radio off, you don't even have to pull the fuse. I inserted the CD while the radio was off, hit the CD button while it was loading, just to be extra sure, and it worked like a charm. I could access the menu and reset the defaults.

I can't believe some dealerships are insisting on replacing the radio for this problem! DO NOT PAY A CENT UNTIL YOU TRY THIS FIX!!!

If your CD is in the drive, hit the EJECT button repeatedly until it ejects then grab it and pull it out. Check the CD - try NOT to use an MP3 disk or home burnt disc - (just borrow your neighbors Yanni CD - it's bound to be in MINT condish). Once you have a decent disk to play, pop it in the drive. The radio should switch to the CD player and finally stop turnning itself off and on. WHILE THE CD IS PLAYING, hit the menu button and RESET TO FACTORY settings. This worked for me.

The solution with inserting the CD and conducting a factory reset worked for mine. Thanks

i have the same problem.....help me, i had to pull the fuses to get to stop working. Ford has had a major problem with the fuses on these vehicles. They have all kinds of internal service messages (ISMs), that only Ford knows about, special service messages(SSMs), and technical service bullitens (TSBs). These grounds cause problems from everything to no-starts, to gauge issues, to radios conerns, to runs rough concerns to sudden accerlations, electrical, etc. Many people have spent lots of money out of warranty, wasted time, and many have been injured....but Ford will not RECALL!

I am having the same problem with my cd player in my car. I had to pull the fuse in order for it to stop. It does not fix the problem. What do i need to do??

Comment by Guest, posted on May 17, 2008

I've have 6 radios replaced under warranty. I tried to get ford to give me a different radio, but they wouldn't. One radio wouldn't eject the CD and never got that CD back from the dealer. Several radios would save the words of the song title as the radio station name. All would start blinking on and off until I pulled the fuse and took the car back to the dealer. This radio is a the biggest pile of junk. I will never spend a cent for anything that has the Blaupunkt name on it. Car will be out of warranty soon and when the radio acts-up again (and it will) I will probably get a kraco from walmart that work better. From the looks of this thread ford has a problem and is in denial.

My wife and I have the same problem with our 2003 Focus. The radio was going on and off and making loud noises. She had to pull the fuse. We have also had problem with all the gauges going off for no reason then come back on. WHAT THE HECK IS FORD PROBLEM???

Anyone find a fix? I bought a replacement radio and it turned off and on too. I had to pull the fuse.

I have the same problem. Mine just started today. I've had 5 great years with this car and after 100K miles, everything seems to be breaking down. Too Bad. Have always had minor intermittant electronic problems, gas gauge / speedo stop working then start again, engine won't idlle when engine is warm and you stop for a couple of minutes at a store. Just minor **** that drives you nutz!

Mine is doing the same too. i think it even drained out battery down. Alternator is charging good. Radio keeps coming on and off. glad to see I'm not alone.

Comment by CindyWho, posted on Mar 14, 2008

Did anyone find a solution or is the radio just shot? I have an '03 Focus also, and it did the same thing last week...stuck at 107.9 on 3 buttons and 97.9 for the others. What are guys doing, getting new radios or getting this one repaired (can it even be repaired??)

Comment by ParkerL, posted on Feb 21, 2008

I just had the exact same thing happen. Radio flashing on/off when I tried to program a radio station... (also pulled the fuse.)

Comment by ZX3-Focus, posted on Feb 17, 2008

I have the same car, 2003 Ford Focus, and the same problem with the same radio. Last Sunday (2-10-08) I tried to preset a station and the radio started flashing on and off. I had to remove the fuse to get it to stop, but it starts the same thing if I put the fuse back in. I did manage to get my CD ejected.

My 2003 Ford Focus has a Blaupunkt audio system. In the past it has turned off and on rapidly but I could fix it by quickly resetting it. However, now it won't allow me to reset it as the buttons do not work. It even comes on and off without the key in the ignition. We pulled the fuse to temporarily fix this problem. However, last night I could turn the radio on even without the fuse in!! Of course, it turned off and on quickly. I held the power button down and it eventually turned off. What's going on?
