what is the wireless status in system tray? is it local or local and internet.
1. first check if it works fine with wire conection or not.
2.if it fine with cable then issue is with wireless. probably issue with Wireless security key.
3. go to available wireless networks and select the net work, if it is asking for wireless key please enter that. if you donot remember that perform router reset.that takes care of it.
I managed to figure it out. I had to clone the MAC address to get the router to connect to the Internet.
I still have another problem though, my laptop still won't connect to the router. I'm using Vista, is this a possible network adapter issue? My laptop is fine at connecting to other wireless networks round my friend's houses/libraries...
Try to delete all the prefered networks. Right-Click Wireless Network Connection, View Available Wireless Networks. Click on Change the Order of Prefered Networks. Remove all prefered networks there and click OK. Now try to View the available wireless networks again, reconnect to your own wireless network and see if it connects fine. Post your feedback.
both laptops should work wireless without any problem,
check if you named both laptops de same, like "pedro"
need to make sure each laptop has a dinamic IP address setup,
check antivirus and ... that's it.
This is a common problem with linkys wireless g routers, as you say that you modem works fine with usb..no problem with your isp, so go head and first upgrade the routers latest firmware..reset and reconfig your roter your issue will get fixed..try it out.
I experienced a similar problem with a Vista laptop a few weeks ago.
There were no apparent problems, so I uninstalled the wireless network
adapter from the Windows "device manager" and then let it automatically
reinstall the wireless adapter when it rebooted. The local wireless
network appeared about 5 minutes after the reboot and has been working
ever since. Hope this idea helps!
