Lacie Silverscreen 500Gb USB2.0

Hello Guys,

I got my Lacie Silverscreen USB2.0 yesterday. I copied a couple of films ( .avi, .mpg and DVD rips ) on it.
Today I faced the issue, that for a DVD rip, the Silverscreen shows the first .VOB file, but do not jump automatically to the next. Even worse is that you even can not manually start the second part of the film, means the second .VOB file.
I tried this now with different DVD rips, and it's for all of them the same :-((
So my next idea was to check the version of the Firmware, and have seen that version 2.0.3.62 / 26th April 2007 !! was installed. So I downloaded from Lacie Support page the "newest" firmware and got shocked that this is the most actual version :-((
Does anyone has an idea what's the problem here, and, first why this happens to the DVD rips, and second, why the most actual firmware is 10 month old ??!!

thanks for any help on that,
cheers,
Peter

I have the same problem and i don't now how to fix it. I did make ISO files from the VOB by using Clone DVD II and put them in a new map and copy this to te Silver-screen movie file, but it did not work either. The silver screen shows on the television-screen, in the movie file, that there are now files. My question is, how do i make an ISO file from a VOB that works on the Silver-screen.

Yep, Answer from Dick is good, in the way you want to convert the files to .iso.

Another solution I found in the meanwhile to my problem, is to make out of the 3, 4 or 5 .vob one, by using e.g. Windows commander and and merge the files to one big .vob file. Then it works.

    brgds,

Hi their,
I have solved the problem. It is really easy. You can make an iso file with Clone DVD II, DVD Schrink or another program who can make iso from vob files. if you do so, their will be file with the name of the converted dvd and at the end of the name it has to end with: .iso ( dot iso ). If there is another extension, remove this one and replace this one with ( .iso ). It worked by me.

Sorry for my terrible English, its from a good hart.

You can not see DVDs in "unpacked" mode (at least not satisfactory), you have to have them in iso format. The firmware is not a problem, the new firmware brings support for more HD drives only.

External Hard Drive

If you plan to store movies on the HD, better buying a 1TB hard drive. WD Mybook is one of the best external HD.

To rip and store DVD movies into the hard disk you will need a specific software, like the ones below.

DVD Converter - convert DVD video to AVI/MPEG/DIVX files

Freeware converts DVD AVI MPEG WMV RM to MP3 or iPod Video

Movie2x Freeware DVD Converter Download

DVDx (freeware from labDV)

You'll need data recovery to fix this problem. If the hard drive makes broken sounds there is a hardware problem. You can try to do data recovery yourself, there is some good content on youtube. If you want somebody else to do it for you there is Data Recovery NYC. Also there is good informaation on logic board repairs on hddguru.com.

Lacie Silverscreen 80Gb Drive not recognised by My Dual Processor PC

Sorry for the late reply, but it may help someone else with the same problem.

Are you using a USB2 port, perhaps it's may not be getting enough power. In the orginal Lacie box was a double USB dongle - it allows you to take the power from two USB ports and send them to the Silverscreen, if the SScreen was getting quite enough power.

Or buy a double USB power cable (like: http://www.n-c.fr/webshopncrevendeurs/catalog/images/Double_Cable_USB.jpg)

Otherwise remove the 2.5" disk (remove two screws, & gently pull out) and use a caddy to check the HD disk is still working.

Deleted 4 folders for lacie silverscreen 500gb

Dead easy, simply attached the SScreen to your PC/Mac and create the four folders:
"Movies"
"Pictures"
"Firmware"
"Music"

It requires these four folders to boot the OS!

did these movies come from licensed sources, by chance? You may be running into a simple issue of licenses not transfering from your HD/computer to the storage unit.

LaCie silverscreen Utilities CD-ROM

The OS is hidden in memory, you can clear all files off the machine and it will still work.

The only requirements are the 4 folders:
Firmware
Movies
Music
Pictures

That's it!

New firmware can be found at www.lacie.com
