I replaced two cartridges at the same time - yellow and light magenta - with genuine Epson cartridges. The printer recognizes the yellow, but refuses to recognize the light magenta. I don't have another one to replace it and must order it. What can I do to get this one to work?
I have had this recently on my own Epson printer, and here is what worked ... (after my own previous solution of going for a cup of tea did not work... I mean, eventually, you want to print something...) So my No. 2 solution is this: Argue with it!
Sometimes, these Epsons get in "loop" my own words. It simply automatically says it cannot recognize the cartridge, when just moments before you were printing away and everything was fine.
I have done such things as the following: turned printer off, then back on again (does it still refuse to recognize the cartridge?); turned printer off, unplugged it for a few minutes, had that cup of coffee, plugged it back in, turned it back on (does it still refuse to recognize the cartridge?).
Don't go to the trouble of uninstalling and reinstalling your printer. That didn't work either...
Here's what worked: Argue with it. When it says unable to recognize cartridge, press OK; It says wait while it moves the cartridge into position for a "new" cartridge; then press OK again. Same result. Keep pressing OK. Repeating this until (woops!), it now recognizes one of your cartridges. Keep pressing OK until it detects all of your cartridges. This is the "loop" I was describing. Somehow or another, when it gets into the loop it doesn't even TRY to detect your cartridges. It just gives you the same old response.
I, like the British bloke, assure you it's NOT your cartridges regardless of what type of cartridge you might be using....
I removed my Epson R1800 printhead as described in one of these tutorials and after reinstalling and replacing the ink cartridges, the printer doesn't recognize the cartridges. I cleaned the leads and tried old cartridges as well. Any suggestions?
Ughhhh I'm having the same problem... STUPID MAGENTA
You can remove magenta & double check that some tape was not left behind on the contacts. Take a clean ragg & dampen it with alcohol. Clean the ink cartridge's (copper contacts & inside the the ink carrige). Re-install the magenta, (tight fit). Power off the printer. Wait a few seconds & power it back up. If it fails a second time with no other errors. Like the above. Than the magenta may be defective. Have a recipt? Return it for a replacment.

I'm having the same problem with my matte black cartridge.
I cleaned the cartridge (and copper contacts) as suggested with alcohol, replaced and re-powered the printer. No luck. I'm off to try and buy another replacement cartridge.
Received a replacement R1800 under warranty and all cartridges are not recognized!
the blacks cartridges are not recognized and the cleaning of the chips does nothing
