Tv turns itself off after a few moments of clear viewing
Sony tv. Relatively old. I can watch a good picture then it turns itself off and two red lights blink on the front of the tv. One blinks continually and every now and again the other will blink alternately. Would be grateful if you could help out

HLP, HCN HL-S The Start-up Problem or/and 3 LEDs in the front blinking. Unplug the set, pull out the lamp module (not all the way - leave it on the track) and push it back in. Power issues (Tv not turning on) were typically due to faulty ballast. While the TV reports a bad lamp it is the ballast itself causing the issue. Samsung is well aware and will replace both the ballast and the lamp (since the lamp can be prematurely aged but the bad ballast). After replacment most people stop having issues
a 6ya Technician can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.

I'm afraid, its RED Picture tube problem that will be replaced. It is qualified tech job to replace picture tube in rear projection TV because there are few adjustments required after replacement. Please call local tech for fix tv. Thanks.
It is your red picture tube that is your problem . This is common with Sony projection TV's of your age . You will need to replace the picture tube . If your going to do this yourself you should have some knowledge of replacing a picture tube as you need to align the yoke and purity rings and adjust the settings of the red tube. If not call around to some local shops not the big box stores to get the best price on labor and parts . Depending on the price of the tube expect anywhere between $350.00 to $500.00 to get fixed . There might be a remote chance of a loose connection on the red circuit board and this should drop the repair price $175.00 depending on there labor charge . Make sure your colors were very good before you had this problem. If not all three need to be replaced and this would be costly and cheaper to buy a new TV. So if a shop tells you to replace all three this is only done if your colors were weak and the picture was not as bright and clear . Good luck , Team tech
I get 5 blinking red lights for about a minute or so before it powers back down. The Sony TV has a specific light that i presume is supposed to light up when the bulb is out. I'm unsure if this is what it is. no picture, no sound. tries to boot with green light blinking a few times. then goes to red blinking light, six in all, then waits a few moments, then another 6 blinking red light.
Bulb was already replaced several months ago but we do have the TV on for long periods of time.
You probably just need a new lamp. If your tv is that old, im sure you do. I just got a new one from Projector Lamp Services (relampit.com) it works great... Only took me a few mins to install it too. I missed my TV!!!
intermittent problems can usuall be liked to bad solder connections. And sony typically has some that will develop after a few years in the power supply. so check for bad sodler connections throught the main board & give a close look to the power supply & check you work after to make sure you have no shorted pins.
the picture tube on your TV set is exausted. Please contact your nearest Authorized Sony Service for further help/advice.
After all, Sony is a good choice. The next TV set you buy could be one of Sony-s Bravia LCD.
