Is there a faint buzzing or humming noise coming from the water-inlet valve? (The water-inlet valve is the device on the washing machine that the fill hoses are attached to.) If you can't hear anything, the water-inlet valve may not be getting any power. If you can hear some noise and there's water present, you may need to completely replace the water-inlet valve.

Why is washer making a squeal sound?

Turn off the water. Remove the inlet hose and clean the gauze strainer, replace and try again. If it still does it, it may be the water inlet valve needs replacing.

Fisher paykel gwl15 squeal while filling

1. Does the squeal go away if you choose a different temperature, eg, a hot wash?
2. Check the strainers/filters where the inlet hoses screw onto the washer:
- turn off water at the wall.
- start a warm wash to release pressure from hoses, then switch off machine.
- remove inlet hoses and inspect for blockage/debris. Then, place hoses directly into where the clothes go then carefully turn the water back on at the wall to check flow.
- Also check strainers/filters at other ends of hoses.
3. If all seems OK, new water valve(s) may be required. The rubber in the water valves can harden over time.

Squealing noise inside the tank

Does the water come out really hot while it is squealing? This is sounding like the water flow is not fast enough and is heating to almost a boiling point. I have experienced this myself with gas heaters. If you open the hot water valve more in your bath or shower does the sound go away?

The washer squeals as the water is filling the tub and continues through most of the cycles. As the machine agitates quickly, the squealing stops. However, it squeals at the end of the cycle.

Sounds like the pump.  When it first fills the pump recirculates the water, then it comes on at the end of each cycle to drain the water.  The pump is on the bottom of the machine, on the right side.

Washer whines any time the agitator is moving or spinning, not while filling, etc. What might this be? I live in the middle of nowhere and my appliance repair man has died of old age. Literally.

We took the housing off the washer and started the machine, albeit carefully, and followed the squeal. Sounded like the water pump thingy in the front. Took that off from the machine but still connected to the hoses and the squeal stopped. Dipped and drained machine, removed water pump thingy and looked inside. Found a really beat up hairpin/bobby pin lodged inside! (I have two teen daughters at home) Removed pin, put back together, and wah-lah, a few hundred dollar miracle, no squeal!
