I get the following message everytime I open Word: "Word cannot open the exisitng file (Normal)". I have tried everything to get rid of it and I can't! It also tries to save the file (Normal) when I close Word but gives me another error message saying it can't save the file as it is in use?
I have tried to delete the file (to be truthful, I can't even find the thing). I tried using the repair feature on the disk. Nothing seems to help.
Apparently the files full name is "Normal.dotm" but when I put a search on it, nothing comes up.
THe manual says that this file will create itself when you boot up Word but I again do not see it and when I try to close Word I get the same error issue.
How can I stop this from happening everytime I open Word? Please help!

- I appreciate the help with this but I don't understand the help that Aimiel attempted to give at the Microsoft site and the help that lan_man attempted to give didn't work! A rather odd thing happens when I try to follow: "C:\Users\YourUserName\AppData\Raoming\Microsoft\Templates" I get to "C:\Users\YourUserName" and there is no AppData. But when I put a search out for AppData I find it but can not trace it back. God this is frustrating. I can't for the life of me figure out why this started happening and can't seem to fix it. If there is anybody who has actually had the same problem as I have and you have a solution, I'd appreciate any help.

- Thank you Aimiel for bearing with me. I changed the folder options as you indicated and I can now follow C:\Users\YourUserName\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Templates, however the hotfix link you gave me really doesn't appear to describe my problem thus I did not contact Microsoft. I continue to have the same issue. It's like WORD is not seeing the file as it is in its proper place. Suggestions????

- Hooray for Aimiel!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He is the MAN. You solved my problem and hung in there when I couldn't get it fixed at first. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
- It looks like you're in Windows Vista, and dealing with 'pointers' that aren't shortcuts or folders, but merely pointers to same. This is a carryover from XP, and one of the reasons that I don't have Vista and never will. First, see if hidden files and folders are visible or not. Go to Control Panel, Folder Options and the Advanced tab. Make sure that the Show Hidden System Files and Folders is checked. You then need to see if THIS HOTFIX from Microsoft will fix it. After that, if you still have the same problem, please let us know.

- Have you tried lan_man's solution?
"Open Word and set the options you would i.e. font and size, then click on the office button and select Save As...Word Template. You will be warned that you cannot save as normal.dotm, so name the file normalold.dotm. After saving go to C:\Users\YourUserName\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Templates and rename the file to normal.dotm and the problem is resolved."
I'd check and make sure that you delete the old normal.dotm file before attempting to rename the new 'normal' document. Please, if his solution works for you, select his solution and give him the 'FixYa' rating.
Hope it will FixYa. Thanks.

Open Word and set the options you would i.e. font and size, then click on the Office button and select Save As...Word Template. You will be warned that you cannot save as normal.dotm, so name the file normalold.dotm. After saving go to C:\Users\YourUserName\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Templates and rename the file to normal.dotm and the problem is resolved.

When creating basic flowcharts, I can't get the connectors to touch the boxes when I print them. I have Office 2007 on my laptop, which I use to create the flowcharts, then I transfer them to my desktop which has office 2003, so that I can print them without having the arrows hanging in between 2 boxes. Is this fixable? Thanks, ****
