Lexmark Wheelwriter 1000 Typewriter

Carriage return (by 3 users)

posted by Kelly029x on Feb 07, 2008

Everything works on my Lexmark 1000 except when I hit the return, it returns half way, makes a noise and won't backspace anymore. The only solution is turning it off and then back on ~ it doesn't do it everytime, but more often than not. What could be the problem? Is it something I could fix?

ThaNks guys!! It now works ~ I really appreciate it ~ we replaced it 2 weeks ago with a Brother typewriter and it is nowhere near as nice as our Wheelwriter ~ but now it works and was really simple!!!

I had the same problem and tried cleaning it out and it still didn't work. I took the batteries out (there were old and corroded) and now it works. Yay!

I'm having a similar problem. The typewriter will return to the original position (on the left), but after you've typed to a certain point (about 3/4 of the way over), when you hit return, it will only go as far as that 3/4 of the way point every time you return. The only way to make it go all the way back is by turning it off and on.

If Jim's solution dosen't work and you know how to removethe case put som light oil (WD40 works well) on the carrier motor. It is in the rt. rear corner.

Hope this helps

Try a slightly oily cloth and wipe the bar that the carrier moves on several times then with the machine turned off try to move the carrier both left and right to each end it should have some resistance but not be hanging up, you may have to do this several times. Good luck
