Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

I've recently got a netgear DG834G wireless router, I connected it fine, security set up OK, connects fine. But when I come to use it in anger the connection seems to drop to the internet. My ISP say I'm connected during this time but 'i' light on the front of the router changes from green to orange. What does this mean? and How can I stop it reoccuring?

best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

I have Netgear DG834G v3 working fine on 3 laptops (vista) 2 iPhones ps3 and wii with wep and no issues. I bought a new printer which requires wpa to be used but when I change over nothing will connect....

Connect a LAN cable from the Netgear to the LAN port on yourcomputer, open a browser and enter the Netgear configuration URL -
http://192.168.0.1
The default login = admin
The default PW = password You can now change the admin password and configure thewireless settings.
Go to the wireless configuration and set up the SSID and WPA or WPA2encryption.
Apply these settings to the wireless card in your laptop/computer.

To secure your wireless network from unauthorized access, please click on thislink and follow my instructions :- http://www.fixya.com/support/r3559128-wireless_router_security

I've got a DG834 connected to my computer - this has been working ok for several years. I now am trying to add a Canon Pixma MX870 to the network. But i can't get the network to recognise that I've added...

If you can connect it directly using an ethernet cable first, ensure it works OK, then do it wirelessly, it should start connecting correctly.

If not, remove the security settings for wireless connection. Go through the procedure of connecting wirelessly, once connected, enter in security settings for wireless connection again.

My laptop won't connect via wireless, and can't even find the network. It used to work fine until a few days ago. I have a netgear DG834G router

You will need to check the wireless settings of the router
is there any computer connected to the router ?
If yes then you can open the router set up page on that computer.
Router set up page is the page where you can check all the wireless settings of the router.

No wps button on DG834G - trying to connect a sony s760 BDP

WPS is one of the choices in wireless security. Log on to your router (192.168.1.1), click on Wireless, and in the Security section you can choose WEP and set up the appropriate password.

Netgear DG834G with xbox360

Connect to the Router,
Under the Security tab, select Services, then add, give it the name XBOX TCP/UDP, set start port as 3074 and end port as 3074, set type as TCP/UDP, click apply/ok. Do this again, giving it the name XBOX UDP, start port 88, end port 88, type UDP, then apply settings.

Now go to Firewall under the Configuration tab, under incoming click add, now select the service XBOX UDP/TCP from the drop down menu. select forward to specific IP address or similar and type in your Xbox's IP address e.g. 192.168.1.5, click log never, then apply ok. Do the same for XBOX UDP and your again click apply. That's it! you've successfully opened the necessary ports on your Router and told your Router that any incoming info on those ports should be sent to your Xbox.

Have lost/can't remember the security code to wirelessly connect to my netgear DG 834G

Paul.

Can you connect to the router via ethernet?

If so assuming you havent changed the routers address connecting to 192.168.0.1 from your web browser should get you into your routers admin page.

Once you have entered the user name and password click the Wireless link from teh main menu where you will be able to see the relevent key and or change it if required.

If you need the manuals you can download from here.
