No need to worry about that this problem arise when the unit is not piciking up the signal.In that situation what you can do is ,you can do a small reset to your unit . In the left hand side bottom corner you can see a small pin hole named as reset
.What you have to do is turn on the unit and insert a paper clip in the reset hole and gently push it inside.So the unit will be reseted surely 100% it will show your location.....

start your 3100, then get a paper clip and depress the reset on the left side near the bottom of your 3100 to reset it and let it restart. that should fix it, but if it doesnt, let me know and ill tell you what to do next.
did that just happen all of a sudden or did you try and update the 3100 and it failed to boot after that...if you didnt try to update it...turn the 3100 on then use a paper clip to depress the reset on the left side bottom of the gps and let it restart.

You could have a defective power connection in your Magellan Maestro 3100 which will not allow you to charge the internal battery or power on your unit.
You may try to contact Magellangps.com or Autonav2000.com to see if they can provide you with repair service.
Might be cheaper to purhcase another Magellan Maestro than spend the money on repairs.
you have what is refered to as BRICKED YOUR UNIT! this is not for the faint at heart to repair as it involves alot of moving, coping and pasting files but im going to give you a link that you can follow to restore you unit. 1st i must say that if this occurred after you updated the 3100, magellen will repair or replace any unit that was renedered inoperable after their update. i suggest you call them if that is the case.

go to Tech support at www.magellamgps.com tell them what has transpired and ask for 2.18 Update Recovery Files. This fixed my problem. Took a few email exchanges but I thought the responses were very quick.
