I have seen lots of people writing online about problems they have had with this machine, which works beautifully for me. However, I took sewing lessons from the time I was a little girl, and did quite a bit of sewing until I was in my teens and my interests changed. I bought this machine after reading favorable reviews, and it has worked great for me when I make the necessary adjustments every sewing machine (including a very old Singer I learned on) needs now and then with regard to thread tension, bobbin adjustment, etc.

If you still need help, I would love to help you, but I would like to ask you a few questions. First, did you buy the machine new? If so, did you get the manual that came with it? Second, if you got the manual that came with the machine, did you read it? Third, have you had any experience with sewing? If so, what kind of machine did you use and how long ago was this? Fourth, if you have not had any experience with sewing, do you have anyone available to teach you the basics or is there a place where you could take one or two classes (for example, a nearby Singer sewing store)?

While writing this, it occurred to me that the solution to your problem could be as simple as adjusting the Reverse Sewing Lever so it is not going in reverse.

I can sew and this machine will not sew forwards. It came new and evidently it never did sew forwards according to my sister who borrowed it. Kenmore 12102

My machine will not sew in the forward position...It keeps sewing backwards like it is in reverse.....Need help ASAP

All sewing machines have a gear lever. This is so you can sew a seam forwards and backwards. Consult your manual.

My mashine cant sew forward

I see a lot of these come in my shop. The cost of repairing outweighs the cost of a new machine. Either find a working model at a garage sale, or commit to purchasing a quality machine. The Janome Magnolia 7330 is the least expensive/best quality on the market. Baby Lock A Line Series are also good machines.

I have a kenmore model#385.19153690 sewing machine. I cant seem to get a long stitch going forward, only when I go backwards can I get a long stitch. So I'm stuck with a short stitch when sewing forwa

Given this is a computerized machine, it may well be it needs a repair shop.. it's not just a matter of adjusting a knob.

Do you have the manual ? If not, I'd try to find one.. many sites online sell copies of manuals for a lot of machines, well worth a google search. If it's simply not doing what you have set it to do, then repair is likely going to have to be professional.

Singer scholastic sewing machine

it would be a good idea to have the machine serviced at a sewing machine shop, it's possible that a part has broken or may have a timing problem..

I have an old universal sewing machine and i need a manual for it and i cant find anything on this machine at all. Do you no where i can get some info on it.

I found a manual at this site that may work for you. In the center of the page is a slide show that has all the pages of the manual. At first it didn't want to come up for me but when I right clicked the slide show and clicked reload, it worked fine. Then you can thumb through the book with the forward and back buttons.

I can't find reverse on my necchi 536fb. I inhereted the machine it's pretty old but works great. Sewing would be much easier if i had a forward/reverse button. Thx

Hi! Sewing is so much easier with a forward/reverse button! :-) I have a Necchi 536 fb also. Here's a picture of mine: efebd8b.jpg
The knob on the lower right controls the stitch length and forward/reverse. Push the center part in to get reverse and release it to go forward again.

You really need a manual for your machine--my Miss Sophia came from a pawn shop so I ordered one from ( for $17.00.

I love my Necchi--you can read about her at if you like.

Happy Sewing!
