Question about Sigma AF 28-200 Lens

Chip to lens

Hello, I could not find my lens,so I entered different one in the product field. Is it possible to get a chip to lens Sigma AF 70-210mm f/2.8 APO (Canon)? Lens is intended for mm film reflex camera ( 35mm SLR camera) and does not work on digital camera (dSLR). There is a new version but it would not work with my older lens. I need my lens work on dSLR and I know that Sigma does some changeable chips. The chip is denoted by  "EIS906B" but I am not sure if I can get it as I was told then it is not produced any more. Thank you for your advice.

I have error 01 on my Quantary 70-300 lens, I have tried to clean it, and different appitures as suggested, however I am still getting error01. Any other suggestions?

If the lens is compatible with your Canon, the only thing I can think of is a defective chip or a bad connection inside the lens.
just bring it back to the shop you bought it.

85mm 1.4 is not metering exposure on my nikon d7000

It is a manual focus lens. That is for sure. The D7000 only can meter, when a lens is fitted with a chip. Usually the Nikon AF lenses. (other brands like Sigma that are compatible) To my knowledge the Vivitar is not. You only can use this lens in Aperture-priority and manual exposure. See a discussion on Nikon forum about this lens, that is capable of shooting brilliant pictures.

From working with third party lenses in the past what I've found is that Canon doesn't give up the "chip" technology so the older lens can not talk to the newer cameras. I suspect that Canon does this to promote their lenses over the competition. You might be able to send the lens to Sigma and have them re-chip it and have a great lens again.

Is it possible to re-chip a Sigma 28-200mm F3.5-5.6 DL lens to work with a canon 500d? If so how much and where do I send it?

Not sure what you mean by "re-chip"...lenses come with mounts for specific cameras. The lens will work on your canon if it has a canon mount.

I have been offered a SiGMA 400mm F/5.6 manual lens for a minolta mount. Will it fit my camera? Cheers Pete

Minolta had two lens mounts. One for manual focus SLR film cameras and one for Auto Focus SLR Maxxum film and digital SLR cameras. Sony uses Minolta Maxxum lens mount.
If the Sigma 400 f5.6 lens was made for Minolta X-700 series, XG, series, XD series, SRT series, then it will not fit on your camera.

Got Sigma dl 75-300mm

Every lens made after 1996 with AF is made for that particular body. Hence the reason many small camera stores when bust, carrying a huge inventory for the 6 or 8 different cameras out there.

My sigma 28-200 have problem with shutter problem my canon eos 450 cannot set more than f3.5 bcoz there are error01

All auto-focus lens have some sort of 'chip' inside .. Sigma 'reversed engineered' Canon's chip - however every time Canon brings out a new camera there is a chance the Sigma lens chip won't work (this is why you see lots of Sigma lens on eBay :-) )

IF you can prove you purchased your lens direct from an authorised Sigma dealer, Sigma will update the chip for free .. otherwise they charge about £35 .. you pay postage in both cases ..

Visit the Sigma web site for further info.

Quantaray 28-200mm Aspherical IF

Usually.
Quantary Lenses are made by either Sigma or Tamron That lens was usualy made buy sigma. the way to tell is to take it to a camera store that sells 28-200 lenses and hold your lens next to the sigma or tamron. They will look the same just with a different name. one of the main difference's between the store brand quantaray and sigma is that alot of time the metal bearings used in the name brand are replace with plastic ones for the quantaray. I tell you that just so you know why the sigma lenses cost more.

you can also find broken ones on online auction sites and use them for parts.

hope you get it working,
Caleb

Nikon D200 problem with SIGMA 28-200 lens - works on one D200 and not my other

Sigma lenses sometimes need re-chipping for full compatability with certain Nikon camera. They are usually quite good about doing this gratis.
Try the Sigma on another body at the camera shop or at home (preferably and older AF film camera). If it works then its likely just a chip compatibility issue.

It sounds like a CPU chip incompatability issue. Sigma has that problem sometimes but are usually very good about rechipping at no cost (at least for Nikon-mount lenses). What did they say when you asked them?
