Question about Sharp R-1500 Microwave Oven

Door crack The microwave works fine, but the door was "slammed" too hard and the bottom of the door cracked. It is a real eye sore in the kitchen. Can the bottom panel be purchased separately? What about buying a new door? Thanks, C

Doors can be purchased, but they usually aren't cheap. Door panels can be purchased, but usually only the INNER panel. You can also get the door latches and handles. I don't know, however, if Sharp has any of the outer door components available without having to purchase a whole door. Refer to your owner's manual to see if there is a part listing index. If you can't find any part information, post back with your complete model number (located around the door opening) and I can see if I can find a part number for you. Hope this helps you.

    I found a website called partstore.com. You can enter your model number and find a list of parts there. The entire door costs about $85. There are two other parts listed: door panel and door frame, but I found no illustration to identify it. You may check out this site to see if you can find the answers you're looking for. If you decide to replace the entire door, it comes off fairly easy by opening the door all the way and lifting straight up. The door is mounted on hinge pins and should just lift right off. I hope this helps you.

Please inspect the plastic latches that should actuate the door switches. Sounds like you may have broken one when slamming the door too hard

Door suddenly has a vertical crack and several horizontal cracks. why


Thats a hard one, might be worth a call to the maker with the model number inquire if a known issue--its possible its a defect.

Only other thing would be someone slamming it hard a lot but these units should be tough enough to take years of that---if you call the maker don't take a song and dance from them---recently on this site had someone who had called a maker about water or liquid constantly coming out the bottom of a Microwave---the company said :"oh, thats normal, don't worry".---The lady asked here and she and I had same response---I don't think water and electricity mix very well or are a safe situation.

Our panasonic inverter microwave (3 years old) needs repeated hard slams to shut the door so that the light goes off and the microwave will work. How do we fix this problem as I'm afraid we are going to...


We have a Panasonic Inverter microwave. Door became difficult to close and had to slam it hard while holding themicrowave to keep it from moving. When opening the door did not pop open but did unlatch. I ordered a new door lever from Panasonic. When got part I removed case from microwave and lever was okay. I then removed the perimeter strip on the inside of the door. With a screwdriver I stretched the spring at the bottom that keeps the door latches pulled downward. Spring still worked just not as stiff. Put perimeter piece back on the door and replaced housing (which I didn't need to remove in the first place), and then put a small drop of vegetable oil on the cams where the door latches hit when closing door. Viola, door opens and closed as new. Problem solved. Diagnosis: over time the latch tension spring hardens and gets too stiff. P.S.: I had several similar springs as backup in case I screwed up the original one.

LG Microwave won't turn off


Our LG did the same thing - called customer service and they told us the open and slam the door 10 times. It actually worked! It reset the switches somehow.

Start Button won't turn of micro wave cooking function.


This is usually caused by either a bad bottom door switch or its mount is loose.

Even though a door switch clicks, it may still be bad inside.

Door switch or mount trouble is usually caused by slamming the door or by opening the door while it's cooking without hitting the Stop pad first.

There are plastic mounts inside the microwave which hold the door switches and onto which the door latches lock when you close the door.

The screws on these mounts may be loose. If they get too loose, the switches will not be activated properly.

Sometimes it's a broken tab on the switch holder, allowing the switch to rotate just out of position. This tab can be hard to see, since it is under the bottom edge of the switch.
