Computer Speaker Problem

My computer no longer will make sounds other than beeping when I start it. A few weeks ago it would play sounds with or without the speakers being plugged in, now it will not play sounds either way. I tried different speakers and also wnet to "sounds and audio devices" in control panel and tried to get it to play sounds and it would not. Any ideas?

Hi,
Go to Control Panel switch to "Classic view" then System, choose "Hardware" then "Device Manager" go to "Sounds,..." remove the sound drivers there and restart the computer...

That should automatically re-detect the correct drivers and reinstall them properly... It might require you to insert the Driver CD of the Motherboard, you need that.

If not, re-install the drivers from the original CD or make a download.

Good luck... Donate that Fixya on me, okay!

Motherboards are equipped with their own speaker that does not rely on the sound card. The main function of this speaker is to "play" beeps when there is some problem with the board or components. These so called "Beep Codes" are available on the internet if you are interested at http://www.computerhope.com/beep.htm

Have you opened the computer up and checked the fans for dust. As you say, those are clasic overheating symptoms
Use a small brush and a vaccum cleaner, or a can of compressed air(air duster) to clean your pc's fans.

How to turn off beeps on anOptiplex 760? Thanks.

I've got a few options that will work for you here. They are outlined below.

1.When starting up the computer, start hitting F2 to enter the BIOS.

Look under "Integrated Devices" and you will see system speaker there, and can be turned off. 2.Open up the case to your Optiplex (Simply push down release tab and remove side cover). Locate the system speaker, and unplug it. 3.Go into device manager. Right Click "My Computer" and select Manage. Choose "Device Manager" from the left side. a. Click View >Show hidden Devices.
b. Expand "Non Plug and Play Devices"
c. Double click "Beep"
d. On the Driver Tab set the "startup" type to "Disabled"
e. Reboot. Let me know if this fixes your issue. Look forward to hearing from you soon.

I have an Acer Aspire (and thats as much as I know) that makes a constant beeping sound ... so fast that I cannot even try to detinguish individual beeps to count them. Sometimes this sound does not happen...

Cardinal Rule 1
Dont use ur expensive computer for Games, go to a galeriya
Cardinal Rule 2
Beeping while playing games is a part of the computer's operation...or it can be part of that game.

Some times ur accessories (like ur printer/USB device/mouse etc) is not connected properly...

if the sound is from the PC's speaker then it can be disabled but u will also not get the games sound.

but if it's from your PC's external speaker then u have to live with it or u can mute ur speakers.

Won't power on while keyboard is plugged in.

Sounds like you did some damage to your keyboard cable. Try using another one if you have a spare or barrow one from a friend and try it on your computer. Make sure you connect it before you start up your computer. If it works fine then replace your keyboard. Fairly cheap fix... Good luck

Simply no sound from PC

Check if you have plugged in the stereo pin to the right port on the PC.
Open sound control (in control panel) and check if the both speaker(main volume) and the wave volume sliders are not set to the lowest.

Sound issues

The sounds(beeps) that you hear are coming from something else inside the computer, and not your main sound card. If your sound doesnt work, even with the correct drivers, then your sound card may be broken.
