Question about Toshiba Satellite A135 Notebook
About 30 to 45 seconds after I boot up my A135-s4467 the screen goes black or off for an instant, comes back on and immediately goes off for an instant and back on. Then everything is ok. Why is it doing this?
This could probably be attributed to:
1. the screen/display automuted when the OS takes over from the BIOS since at the very start, it is the BIOS that the controls the video display;
2. the screen refreshing when the OS has loaded its video driver. There is a bit of lag before end of refresh since simultaneously all other drivers are being loaded.
You can verify this by booting into Safe Mode. You will notice that:
a. the first blank is before Windows logo and
b. the second (longer) blank is after the video driver before the GUI.

Sounds like perhaps you are experiencing the beginnings of a failure mode for laptops, where the LCD/screen connections are starting to give it up. I have a Sony with a similar issue, and I leave it permanently open, instead of jockeying with the screen to stay on. Sooner or later, that screen MAY need to be replaced. Not quite sure what causes it, but what cures it is a new LCD with ribbon cables included. Not cheap either. I'll bet it still works with external monitor, right?
