Ed hamrick at www.hamrick.com has been writing an excellent scanning software for 15 years.Vuescan supports over 50 Umax on curent Mac, Windows and Linux computers. The Astra 5800 is not mentioned but it may be a foreign version of one of the scanners in the list. It is only free to trry, but well worth the purchase price- You can always ask by email if it supports your scaner
