Two ports will be available on the CPU, normally 1 port for the phone cable and the other to modem, please connect to one of these ports and see.

I am trying to set up a switch between my PS3 and my PC. I have an external DSL modem. I purchased a 5 port switch(Rosewill RC405-x) but no luck. Can I use an ethernet splitter instead?

You did not explainhaow you connected all your equipment together.
Connect your PC and PS3 into the 5 port switch.
Connect your DSL modem into the 5 port switch, if there is a WAN/internet port on the 5 port switch then connect the DSL model into this port.
You may need to power off the 5 port switch wait a 1 min and power up the 5 port switch again so it can setup an IP address table for the connected ports.
If this still does not work the replace the 5 port switch with a normal 5 port hub.

Hi i have tried many times to get my ntl modem to work with a new dir-300...it all goes well til the save settings screen comes up then it says ethernet cable not conected or unable to detect modem..etc...

After you click 'SAVE', the router will restart itself.
While it is restarting, it briefly disables its Ethernet ports,
and your computer will report "not connected".

Wait 60 seconds, while the router finishes its restart,
and those Ethernet ports will be re-enabled,
and the pop-up balloon on your computer will close itself.

Im trying to connect my ps3 to my wireless router. it has recently stopped working. is there anything i can do?

Sure! Try this:
1 Turn your network off. Modem router, computer, printers etc. turn them off.
2. Leaving the wireless router connected to the modem with an ethernet cable (modem power off) , turn your wifi router on and let it cycle up.
3. After the router is cycled up, turn power on to your modem , leaving the ethernet cable connected to the wifi router's internet port. Let the modem cycle up .
4. After this, turn on all computers, routers and etc... no particular order.
This should allow your modem to find the wifi router and direct it to your computer via wifi or ethernet..

Motorola Surfboard 4220 not working with my Netgear WGT624 router

Make sure that you have the ethernet cord from your modem plugged into the WAN/Internet port on your router. Then unplug the power cord from your cable modem and plug it right back in. After the modem fully comes back online, unplug the power cord on the wireless router and plug it back in. wait 30 - 60 sec and then try and connect.

Most cable companies only allow one active"CPE" at a time for internet access. All this means is when you change what is connected to the cable modem you must always reboot the cable modem to allow access.

Hope this helps. Let me know if it does not work.

Networking

Well, I would guess that if you are hooked up now, then you have a wireless router. If this is the case then you should have rj-45 (ethernet) ports on the back of it also for lan hook-up also. Must come with atleast 4 LAN ports, 1 WLAN port (for the incoming internet signal from your cable/dsl modem), so if you use a reg. ethernnet cord, then yes you should be fine hooking your ps3 to your network(via ethernet cable to your wireless router from the ps3).
Hope this helps...

Ps3 to internet

Difficult to explain but i'll try:

You got 2 options.

1. Buy a router and connect the modem to the router wan port and find a manual how to set it up. Then through your router you can connect (a lot of) pc's, laptops or ps3.

2. Buy an extra network card and a crosslink network cable cat5e. Use software like gatekeeper to connect both to internet.

maybe the second option is the best because sometimes isp providers register you mac adress(unique adress of your network device). It's not the fastest solution.

The first is the most professional but require some knowledge of routers, ppoa, pptp, fixed ip, Wan ip, and lan ip.

I did the second option a lot with speedtouch modems and draytek routers.

Good luck, let me know if you need more assistence.

Turn off the PS3, unplug the power to the cable modem, let them sit 5 mins. Plug in the power to the cable modem ONLY, wait for all lights to be on steady except for the activity light Then turn on the PS3 and check the network IP addy.

Ps3 wireless

It depends... If you use a router for the Internet then you don't need any cable, just turn on the router and then go to the PS3 and configure the PS3 to work with the router. If you have wired internet, then you will need an Ethernet cable, but since the PS3 comes with an Ethernet cable, you don't need to buy one. With the Ethernet cable, you have 2 options. If your modem has an Ethernet port, then just connect the PS3 to the modem directly. If the modem doesn't have an Ethernet port or direct connection won't work, then you can use Internet Connection Sharing to connect your PS3 to the Internet.

I can't get my computer on the internet . I am using windows xp and the modem will not get the internet on the dell computer

Hi, This modem can be used via one of two ports: ethernet port (network port) or USB port If your computer has an ethernet port, it is perferable that you connect through this as you will have better performance. If you don't then you can get an ethernet card installed inside the CPU. If it's not possible to connect via this connection and you have to use the USB, then you will need drivers. This website gives you full instructions on how to use this particular modem and also gives you the USB drivers if needed. http://www.triadtwcable.com/template_media/cablemodems/rca245.htm Good luck!
