Question about HP Compaq nc6220 Notebook

USB-ports Both the USB-ports on the computer and the docking has stopped working on my nc6220.. I have tried every usb-device I own, and nothing work.. Mouse, memorystick, USB-replicator, keyboard.... I don't know what to do.. If I get a sollution this week, I'll be so gratefull..:D

    My Compaq nc6220 touch pad and all USB stop working and ,when I did the system restore every thing work but then all of sudden everything crash, nothing seems to work ,then I reimage the drive still same problem. Some one in this forum said System board is shot, please help!!

I would say that the controller on the system board is shot and most likely would have to replace the system board to fix this issue.

Hi
Check the BIOS settings, the USB device must be enabled in order to make them work during the installation and detection of devices.
Then reinstall the USB device that you have deleted to make them work again...

Hello Jackie.

2 of youre USBs are USB 3. so you need to install the right drivers for USB 3.
Also you should check youre BIOS settings, if there is an option to enable "XHCI" support so enable it. (USB 3 needs this to work ).

I cannot get my keyboard or my mouse to work with my dell computer. what can i do?


Please add more information to get specific assistance. Are these wireless devices? If wired, do they use USB or PS/2 connections.

For wireless devices, try replacing the batteries and resynching to the receiver. (You may want to check putting the receiver in different USB ports.)

For wired devices, disconnect and reconnect. For PS/2 devices, you will need to restart the computer to check if the devices work. For USB devices, try connecting to different USB ports.

Next step, try using a different keyboard and mouse (that work on another computer (stick to USB or PS/2 to match the current pair)). Try a wired set if the problem is with a wireless pair. If those work, continue diagnostics on the wireless keyboard and mouse. Check if the mouse and keyboard work on another computer. If they don't work with another computer, replace them.

If another USB keyboard and mouse pair don't work in any port, your USB ports may have failed. Check if even one port works enough to access the Device Manager. (Start > Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Device Manager (Win7); similar directions in other versions of Windows) Check for a problem with the drivers (For USB ports, scroll down to the USB drivers and look for a triangle with a yellow exclamation point or red x). Try to update the driver or roll it back. If that doesn't help and one USB port works, a USB hub may solve the problem.

Otherwise if the USB or PS/2 ports do not work with any devices and the driver fix doesn't work, then I'd suspect a problem with the ports on the motherboard. Replace the motherboard/computer.

My Logitech LX3 optical mouse has stopped working completely. If there is a battery in it where the heck is it? I don't see anywhere on the mouse where a battery could fit in it. Please help! Francine


The LX3 is a wired USB mouse so it doesn't have a battery. So the next issue: is the mouse plugged in directly to the computer or into a USB hub? Try changing the port that you have the mouse connected. Check that the USB ports are active (not disabled for power savings or security) For Windows, the first is under the Advanced settings for the Screen Saver. The second is in the device manager. Try the mouse on another computer if possible. Try a different mouse on the computer. Check if other USB ports work with known working devices. For a Windows machine, you might try uninstalling the USB device and then reinstalling the drivers after a reboot. For laptops, try resetting the unit. On my HP laptop, I lost all USB devices at once for a part of the day. In that case, unplugging the AC charger and removing the battery was required to recover the USB ports.

If you have an older OS, make sure the drivers are installed. (This mouse is not compatible with Windows 95.) If you use a USB to PS/2 adapter, try a USB port and reboot the computer.

Wired mice frequently get damaged cables so I'd recommend replacing it. There was a 5 year warranty on the mouse when purchased new.

Doesn't work.....no laser light appears on the bottom of the mouse. Nothing happens when I hit the "connect" button.


It sounds like these is either a problem with the USB port on the motherboard or with the mouse itself.

Assuming that if a wireless mouse: the batteries are new, the device is actually turned on and the transmitter has been removed from the mouse and plugged into the the USB port and it still does not work, it should be tried on all the other USB ports of the computer. If none work, try on another computer.

This will help determine if the mouse or the computer is the problem. If the mouse does not work on other ports or on the other computer, a defective mouse is likely. If it does work in a different USB port of the original computer, the first USB port is suspect.

If it only works on a different computer, the problem my lie in the setup or BIOS page of the computer. Look for a setting for USB ports. Enable the ports if disabled, and try again. If still no luck, there is some other issue at the motherboard level. Unless fairly new and under warranty, it will probably not be worth trying to fix the problem, when a $20 USB expansion card could be purchased and installed to provide USB connectivity needed.

You could also try connecting a different USB device (if available) to test the USB port. A USB webcam, hard drive, mechanical mouse, etc. are all good choices to test the port. You should indicate or cover any ports that are found to be defective.

I cant get any mouse to work on my dell laptop.


see the very first thing is that what u can try is that try and connect the same mouse that u had and that had worked and if works then the prob is with the mouse that u have right now and if that also doesnt work then the usb port on the laptop has gone bad and u need to replace the motherboard of the computer but before replacing the motherboard try and connect some other usb device on the same usb port.........

I think you might have a loose cononection for the data ports. Try putting a little bit of force on the usb device. Up, down left right. NOT ALOT. If it starts working when force is used, i tihnk you should try to take it apart and resolder the connections. If it dosen't work, uninstalling the driver and installing.

Try removing all the USB devices in Windows Device Manager with the laptop docked. To do this: Right-click My Computer, left click Manage. On the right side of the window, click Device Manager. On the right side, click the + sign next to USB Devices. Highlight each device under this heading and hit Delete on your keybaord to remove all the devices in order. Then right-click Computer at the top of the list and click Scan for Hardware Changes.

Hopefully Windows will re-detect your USB devices and get them back operational.

is the usb port not detecting any other device or just to your docking station or if you plug any usb device and you get the message like not supported or may have a problem can you do that test and give me some more info
