Question about Gateway FPD2275W LCD Monitor

Hansol Flat screen H771 problem after a powercut only.

Hansol Flat screen H771. Once unplugged or after a powercut, when it is plugged in again it flickers but won't show anything on the screen at all. I noticed that there is a black box between the screen and the mains that has a green light on it. This light is pulsing after unplugging/power failure, if i leave it plugged in for a week or more unplugged from the screen then light comes on continuously and screen will work once more. Do I need a new voltage regulator/transformer? as this time I cannot use screen at all after the latest power failure.

Hi,

The box your describe is the external power supply/adapter of your monitor. It is possible that:
1. there is a loose connection or a cold solder inside the adapter;
2. there could be components defective or nearing end of its life internally in the adapter.

You could try:
a. gently shake or tap on the adapter to determine if doing so will stabilize the green light instead of pulsing. If yes, then you have just confirmed of the loose connection or cold solder;
b. Opening the unit and visually check for any loose connection. Should you feel adventurous, you can expose the PCB and check for any dull grayish color solder joint. These are indications of cold solder. Cold solder normally appears on power component such as capacitors, high wattage resistors, regulator transistors or IC power packs. Repairs would involve determined defective parts replacement.

Should you not be comfortable doing this and since it would require familiarity and knowledge of electronic components and circuitry, the use of a DVM and a soldering iron, perhaps it may be best to seek the services of a qualified service professional.

Alternately, there are online adapter replacement that should work if the specifications are the same. Ratings should include input voltage, output voltage, current capacity and the end connector that should fit your LCD display.

Hope that this be of help/idea. Pls post back how things turned out or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Hi, My Hansol H550 used to come on when my PC tower was booting up, but now I have to press the green on/off button. BUt unfortunately, after pressing the on off button the screen only comes on for a split...

Sounds like there is no input to the monitor. Check the video cable(the one with the screws). Even if it looks plugged in, unplug it and replug it at both ends.

H950

The backlight power supply in the H950 series suffers from a manufacturing defect. Hansol might replace the unit even if it's not covered by warranty anymore. Contact them.

Otherwise (and if you have electronics skills), replace the electrolytic caps in the monitor's power supply. Take proper high voltage precautions!
  • Disconnect mains
  • Wait at least one day for caps to discharge a bit
  • Remove monitor stand (four screws)
  • Put the monitor face-down on the table, plugs facing to you
  • Remove back cover (snap-in, difficult to open without minor damage) - be cautious: front buttons are connected using a rather short cable, do NOT try to remove front cover
  • Remove EMV casing screws (four screws) and ground wire
  • Disconnect CCFL tubes (four connectors), noting connector orientation
  • Disconnect front buttons pcb
  • Lift EMV casing side facing to you
  • Disconnect power supply board (left) from signal board
  • Unscrew/remove power supply board - caution: C12 is likely to store mains voltage even after days!
  • Replace caps (C34 and C66 are likely failure candidates for IPHS19-S rev1.2 boards; you might also replace C31, C32, and C35 while you are at it) - higher voltage and temperature rating are okay, capacity has to match
  • Assemble everything again

Some of those monitors have had a problem where the large HDMI cable attaches to the back of the monitor. Try inserting the HDMI cable then instead of tightening the screw supports power up the monitor and wiggle it slightly if the monitor works then the problem is in the connector and may need to be resolderd on the inside. have you tried using another HDMI cable to rule out that the cable itself isnt defective?

Most likely the power supply, or the back-plane lamps, or the back-plane supply, or a defect on one of the processor boards is loading the supply too much, or any combinations of these are defective. You will have to have a source to try the boards to fix the monitor. I would suggest to find the authorized service rep for your monitor. They will have to service it for you. If the monitor is out of warranty, the fix will not be cheap!
