I got a dell x51 pda it has a ambicom 56k modem card...how do I use the card to connection the internet?

You need to configure "Dial-Up Networking", and you need to find an Internet Service Provider in your "local" telephone-calling area that still offers "dial-up" service, and sign-up with them.
They can provide instructions on how to configure dial-up networking to their setup.

Describing Cheap Dial Up Internet Connections

Today you can find a 56k modem. Transmit data at a speed of fifty-six Kbit / s V.90 or V.92 protocol. You must understand that this is the fastest available dial-up modem. 56k is the limit of maximum bandwidth of a standard telephone line. Be sure to connect to the Internet in areas with less noise power to prevent low-speed Internet connection. At this pace, you can play online games, download large files, make video conferences or movies from a video streaming site. Many of these applications are not compatible with Internet Dial-face. A broadband cable high-speed, satellite or DSL Internet service are better preferences.

You should expect all to take a little time to coordinate a phone connection, negotiate the protocol and, finally, allow the transmission of data. In some places, this process is slower. Note that the entire system consists of three entities - the ISP, Telephone Company, and the user. All have the power to terminate the Internet connection for some reason.

Yes of course. Before the introduction of the latest 3G wireless high-speed cable and DSL broadband by satellite, it was a bestseller. Today, it's always a good option for remote areas that lack the technology or broadband fiber-to-date. Satellite networks are suitable for rural people who want to get broadband connections faster and reliable. In urban and rural areas, attracts fewer users dial-up packages which do not require very fast network and you want the lowest cost monthly cost for ISPs.

This technology is very similar to digital subscriber line (DSL), because they use a phone line. However, DSL is more preferable because it is much faster and can use the website and answer a call on the same telephone line. Unfortunately, dial-up does not work the same way, the caller will often find your line is busy. In terms of broadband connections, ADSL first. Offers the latest technologies that offer greater speed and accuracy, such as ADSL, SDSL, VDSL and HDSL.

Made unsuccessful attempts to connect to the Internet using the dial-up modem. The internal modem came installed on my original PC and is a Smart Link 56k Modem. What do I do?

Can we have more information about the problem you have when attempting to connect ? The error code and message would me very useful in your case.

For example :
1. If it says the modem is already in use, go to "Network connections" or "Network and sharing center" and delete all existing dial-up connections, then create a new one based on the settings your internet provider gave you.

2. It might be a problem with the login and password. Write both in Notepad on the computer, then copy and paste the information in the required fields in the connection window.

3. It might also be a problem on the telephone line. Try another computer with dial-up modem known to work properly. If the problem repeats on that computer, the problem is on the telephone line. You will need to contact your provider to fix the problem.

Can I download modem on dell laptop

Most of the time on laptops if there is no phone input for a modem you cannot just plug in and dial up. The process i use at home for my pc is dialing through my cell phone. If your carrier will allow you to tether your phone without extra charges check your phone manufacturers website for modem software. You then just connect your phone through a usb cable and set a internet connection matching your carriers instructions. Another solution is dificult without networking knowledge but you can set up a home pc with a wireless antennae as a ad-hoc server through internet connection sharing and then allow your laptop to connect through the "server" pc.

Sierra Wireless Compass 597

Usually when you have a network connection but cannot access the internet there is an IP issue. Here are some things to try:
  • If you haven't already done so, restart your computer
  • In Network connections - delete the Sprint connection under Dial Up Connections & restart pc
  • Right click on Local Area Connection and click properties - click TCP/IP and click properties - make sure Obtain an IP Address Automatically is selected
  • If your cable modem came with an installation CD - try reinstalling
Hopefully one of these will get you back on the Internet.
