Sansa not recognized by computer

I bought the e280 today and when I plug it into my computer, it turns on, but nothing else happens; it doesn't connect, and my computer doesn't recognize it as anything. I tried the little disc in the box, but there's nothing useful at all on it. I installed the firmware and got no results. I updated to windows media 10 and nothing. I attempted to change the USB modes as hinted to, but I cannot for the life of me seem to find the option in "Settings".

Have I missed a step?

I have the exact same problem with my e200. I can't for the life of me get my computer to recognize the device? I've used it on another computer (which I no longer have and has since been formatted) and it worked fine, but it won't seem to work on this one?

I am having the same problem with my sansa e260 that i bought a few days ago. I got a refurbished one, so i didn't know if that was the problem (which obviously isn't because several other people have had the same problem).

I have the same problem, but I bought my unit 2 months ago.
It worked perfectly until a little over a week ago, when the computer no longer recognized it.

I bought a new USB cable, but that didn't help.
I tried switching it from MSC mode to MTP, but that didn't make any difference either. (By the way, on the Rhapsody versions, to change that, go to Settings and then Mode. Rhapsody is MSC mode and PlaysForSure is MTP mode.)
I tried locking the device and then pressing the center button for a while, but the computer didn't recognize it.
I've tried holding down the menu button for 15 seconds to "restart" it, but that didn't help.
    Nothing helps.
Plus, I bought a charger for it, but it doesn't charge. I'm beginning to think that the problem is with the USB connector on the device itself.
I know it's not the computer, because I've tried it on different computers with no success.

    Any advice?

I bought a Sansa clip for my mom for Christmas and i downloaded some music on it and it worked fine but when i went to put more songs on it, my computer won't recognize it. Is it because of SP3? It would...

This happens quite often with USB drives in general. Start by plugging it into another computer (minimum WinXP). If it works there, nothing is wrong with your player, but your computer has "lost" the driver. Fixing things so the player is again recognized by that computer is complicated, and some choose to reformat the computer, or use a different computer to maintain the player. Explaining exactly how to do fix your computer is a bit too involved to do here. I haven't found a definitive guide, but several suggestions by searching Google for: won't recognize usb drive

Sansa plugged into Ipod music player - won't work now

Yep - it's a sad thing. iPod docks have ruined many a good mp3 player. Download the Sansa Recovery Tool from Sandisk's website (make sure the Sansa is not plugged into the computer yet). Once the Recovery Tool is downloaded, connect the Sansa to the computer while holding in the REC button and continue to hold it even after th player is plugged in. It should go into Recovery Mode in 10-15 seconds or so.

Computer doesn't recognize MP3 player -

I think I have a solution. First you turn on the MP3 Player and then go to the menu. Go down to settings. Then, go to USB. Go down to "MSC" and hit the middle button. It should take you back to the settings menu. That means you successfully changed that setting. Now plug the MP3 Player back into the computer and open up "My Computer." It should show up. I hope this helps!

Computer doesn't recognize MP3 player -

I had the same problem, all you have to do is first turn on the Mp3.Then go to settings. Then go down to USB mode. It will probably say, auto detect. But instead scroll down to MSC. If that doesn't work try MTP.

Make sure you are using a data transfer cable, and not just a "Charge Only Cable"... There is a difference, and they may look similar and both connect via USB so it can be tricky.
