I have an elderly GE Range - the id plate is scarred up, but the model number appears to be
J 406T1 WH 15 2
I can't find it on the GE site. Is it because it's too old, or is one of the characters wrong?
It's a 40 inch range with 4 electric burners all grouped to the left with an empty space on the right. It has dual ovens (small to the left, large to the right) with no windows. It has pushbutton controls for the burners.
Once I have identified the range, I want to get a service manual for it. The cook top wiring is old and crufty and I want to rewire it
That is definitely an oldie, but a good one. I always pull each burner, remove the clips off the ceramic insulator, and replace one wire at a time. If you look at each burner control, they should all be the same ie. #1 is the same on each. There are usually only 3 wires on the small burners, and 4 wires on some of the dual coil larger burners. Also, on the back panel, there is supposed to be a wiring diagram glued to it. I may still have some parts for it if you need any.
