How do we measure the voltage at each phase in a three phase wiring system using a multimeter or voltmeter?

If you Google your question you will discover a great deal of information including the theory and practice of 3-phase star and delta power generation with and without neutral and some youtube videos about measuring the voltage.and some valuable safety information.

Safety is paramount due to the high voltage available between phases.

Briefly, the voltage is measured with reference to neutral or ground on all three phases and averaged to discover the supply voltage.

Next the voltage between phases L1, L2 and L3 are checked and these should be identical or within a few percent of being identical.

Good luck!

I have Hobart D300 mixer which operates at 220V, 3phase supply and whereas the facility has 208V, single phase supply. Is there any recommended phase converters available for this product. Thanks

Hi Bill
I may be wrong here......
But I've been around Electricity for a long time.
Have Never seen a device that does phase conversion.
A Building site or home will either have Three Phase or Single Phase Power Available
BUT...A portable (Hired) generator could be "three phase" and you could use any one of those phases individually or all three phases.

I have 3 Phase supply to my house!
But I use 230 volt Single Phase for appliances.
My Bore Pump uses a 3 Phase Motor,
(so with a voltmeter it would read about 440 vAC to the pump motor).
Some Further Info:
A GENERATOR is basically a motor used the opposite way. Rotate a motor and it Generates.
The Phases refer to the THREE Windings in the supplying generator in your suburb.
A Large Magnet passes each winding in sequence giving you the three ripples in the supply.
Our houses can choose to have 1 Phase or Three Phases from the street when you set up your electric supply.
So... to confirm, look at the wires on the supply poles to the premises. Usually three in our area (Oz)
Most people are not aware that a car Alternator is actually three phase. The Rotor is the magnet that rotates.
The only difference with an Alternator is that each "Phase" is connected to 2 Diodes (6 total) to convert the three phase to DC to charge the vehicle.
The Regulator controls the voltage to the Rotor, thereby controlling the output.
So.... An Alternator could in theory supply 3 Phase in a mobile generator. Custom Made. Constant speed would determine the frequency of 50Hz or 60Hz.
Not sure what country you are in

Hope this Helps or gives you food for thought!

When i turn on the drive it display it display code for ground fault. my wiring are correct. And i cannot use keypad of drive. how can i resolve the fault .

why cant you use the keypad/'display of drive, is it not lit up ? if so you most likely have a grounded phase on the load side (motor) I suggest disconnecting motor completely and measuring to ground with a high voltage tester (megger) if you have a phase to ground then all the power that drive puts on that wire will shunt to ground , causing infinite current , this will affect the power supply of drive and not allow drive to even power up correctly
also you failed to mention if motor was 3 phase if so , some drives require installer to remove shunt jumpers (see install directions) this will "Lift" the surge suppresors off earth ground and over to "virtual" ground that occurs at center of three phase power , this might be seen as a ground fault if this is not done correctly

It requires two hot wires measuring 240 volts across them and 120 volts from either of them to the neutral connection. Some people refer to the two 'hots' as 'two-phase' and some refer to it as 'single-phase'. At any rate, you do NOT have three phase requirements with that dryer.

Most of the dryers have a 120volt motor which is why you need two hots and a neutral. To complicate matters, recent changes to the code now require 4 wires on newly constructed structures. Two hots, a neutral AND a bare ground wire.

Wells deep fryer 208 volt 3 element. 1 element works other two don't working left to right. Continuity good resistance good. Relay problem?

Sounds like this maybe a three phase unit and you are powering it off on single phase power. Most can be converted to single phase but will draw three times the current and requires some wiring changes. It needs to be on a three section breaker for 3 phase.

We just bought a Mini Plus B31 coffeemaker and the cord will not plug into a standard three prong outlet. Other appliance cords do plug into the same outlets.

if you have a four pin plug, check that it is not three phase for heavy electrical use. ask your electrical supplier if your house has three phase, if your house had electric storage heating there is a chance it had three phase to balance the electrical supply to the property this can be dangerous so check please (some old boilers were two or three phase years ago)

Does this machine run off 240volts or three phaze regards gary

If I undersatnd correct your question is if it can work with single phase or three phase.
You should first check the lable of the machine which is a silver plate and which it can be found outside the machine so you can check the voltage if it is 220-240 or 110V. Also you can find the total load in Watt.
You can check also to see how many wires are incuded in the power cable. If you find only three then you can only be connected with single phase. If you find five cables then you can connect both single phase and three phase. In the case you want single phase then you can connect the three phases as one. The only care is that the supply isolator on the wall to be able to supply the required total power mention on the label of the machine.
Good luck

Make a connection of a 6-leads, 3-phase motor in delta and wye connection

connection would be easier in the wye. single phase current is easier to pull of of one leg in the wye to get your common that you would not have in a delta connection. three phase doesnt require a nuetral. just 3 phase 120degrees out of phase from each other

How to install a 3phase power meter device

The three phase power meter will have sensors or terminals to run TWO of the three load leads through. In addition you will have a voltage input or two.

The exact connection will depend on the model of your device.

Only two load leads are needed since the third will have the sum of the other two leads (including the phase angle in the sum).
