We just got this unit used and it's great but we can't get the remote control to cycle the sound out of the mono mode. The manual shows just repeated activating of the MTS (Multi-channel Tv Sound) button should change it but the word MONO just blinks when pushed and doesn't change.
All the other functions on the remote seem to work ok, so far as we have checked, and we installed a new fresh set of good batteries.
Is there a secret way to get this over to the SAP mode (Second Audio Program)?
Thank you for any possible help.

While receiving an MTS broadcast, press [Audio] repeatedly to to cycle through the available channel.
Main: Outputs main audio.
SAP: output secondary audio programme.
Mono: Outputs mono audio.
You must ahve remote control to change these, because only remote control have Audio button on it to control these. OK.
SAP means "Separate Audio Program" - usually SAP mode is for changing the language of the broadcast (i.e. from English to Spanish) and is also used to enhance the sound broadcast of some programs.
Not having a remote may make this difficult.... you need to find a way into the set's menu- some sets have a "menu" button on them..... some require two buttons be held down together.... look at the set carefully.... if you have the manual, it is a good time to look at it.
When you get into the menu, find the AUDIO menu and de-select SAP. Your sound should be restored.
If you cannot get into the menu, you will need a remote. Write down the brand and model of your set, go to a decent electronics store, and browse the "universal remotes". Find one that supports your set and follow the instructions to set it up for your television. You will then be able to access the menu and turn off SAP.
It sounds like the set may be in a closed caption mode or text mode. On the units remote control, it should have a button labbled "CC". Pressing this should bring up a on screen menu showing CCI, CC2, CC3, Text1, Text2, etc. Each time you press the "CC" button it should cycle through each selection until you get to the one that say's OFF. High-lite the OFF selection then press enter on the remote. This should turn off the "CC"/ Text mode. If it still occurs, it could be the cable box or satellite box causing the same problem. In rare occations, I have seen incapability problems with cable and satellite boxes using HDMI cables hooked to the television but this would normally cause no picture or no sound on selected channels.
I hope this helps,
If you open the menu, there should be an option for sound. If you have a universal remote, you will probably have to do it with the buttons on the TV.SAP and stereo are about the same.It most likely cycles through mono, stereo,SAP with the volume button.Good luck!
Your SAP/MTS function is most likely turned on. This feature has 3 modes: Stereo, Mono and SAP. Stereo and Mono are easy to understand, it's the SAP that can get you. SAP stands for Second Audio Production. It is used to provide weather, information or an additional language translation of a program. Some broadcasters simply transmit the mono audio over the SAP audio channel when the are not using it for other purposes. Other broadcasters simply do not use it, which does not give you any audio. Look on your remote for a SAP or MTS button. If you do not see one, look in your TV user menu for this feature. If you are using a cable box, look in the audio menu of the cable box. You are looking for something set to SAP... just change it to STEREO. I hope this was helpful.
Make sure that the set is not in mono mode. It should be in the audio menu or you may have an audio button on the remote control. I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue. Mine does this too. Sorry if i tell you the wrong button, because i can't test it right now because I'm having the problem where my remote doesn't work. But i would either push the MTS button or the P. Mode don't remember which it was, but it would change the audio from stereo to mono and i think you want mono to fix it.
