There are many versions of the Microsoft Windows operating system. You may be
using Windows 98, Windows Me, Windows XP, or another version. To make sure you
know which version is on your computer:
Click Start, and then click Run.
In the box, type winver, and then click OK.
The window that appears will show you which version of Windows your computer
is using. If your operating system has a service pack installed, you will see
the service pack listed as shown in the following image:
you need to go to this site and download and install the both the drivers and software for windows xp

I know nothing about computers and I don't know where to look to find the operating system I am using. I don't have the software for the scanner, I got it for free from people moving out of town. I don't know if I have a scanning program.
The OS is Windows XP
It says it has service pack 3.
you should always include the operating system you are using as it could be a driver issue. Please let me know the OS and if you have installed the software that came with your scanner and also which program you want to scan into.
