Screen goes to black with a ghosting of the last moving image.
The problem we have is the screen is going to black with a ghosting of the last moving image. The non-moving image is pure black and white. the lamp is still lit and it is bright white, and we have sound for the channnel it is set on. I can turn off the tv by the remote or pull the plug because sometime the remote will not turn this off. when we turn it off we let it stay off for about one -two minutes, and the full HD image comes back. It may be fine for sometimes up to 2,3, or 4 hours, or sometimes we only get 1/2 hour, before it goes to black and white. I don't think this is a lamp problem because we're not getting the fast blink of the led's on the front panel. Appreciate any help thanks Steve

Well this is the fix for the usual Ghosting problem....
To bring up the "service" menu, put the TV in standby mode, then press in sequence :
Onscreen Display ( the little screen with the i+ in it ) 5 ( channel number 5 ) Volume Up ( upper end of volume button ) Analogue ( middle top button )
The TV should switch on and when it's warmed up, you should see a screen with lots of big green lettering on it.
Press the "menu" button ( middle bottom )
Use the direction dial to move down to "LCD Drivers" and press right on the dial to enter this menu.
Move down to "S H Pos Reg R". It should be "10", change it to "11". ( Left/Right to adjust ) Move down to "S H Pos Reg G". It should be "10", change it to "11". Move down to "SHPos Reg B". It should be "10", change it to "11".
Press the menu bottom to drop out of the menus, and the standy button to drop to standby. Switch back on, and hopefully your ghosting will be gone
hope this works
The dulling picture really sounds like a lamp failing. You would need the sony lamp xl-2100u
The ghost image may be easier to fix, sometimes as lcds age you will get a slight shift in a color. deep in the sony menu there is a parameter (menu-setup-imageshift) that will give you 3 levels of correction, this may solve this issue.
ok go into setup menu.... go to convergence.. try to adjust convergence .. does the crosshair move up and down side to side... if not then you might hqve q poblem with convergence power supply if they move then u might have s setup issue
when you leave your TV (no matter what kind) and you leave it for long periods of time on a static image or something.. the image tends to burn in to the screen... so changing the glass would be a way to fix it.... the problem is that that kind of repairmen is more expensive and difficult than buying a new set...
Replace the convergence ICs. They are located on a large aluminum heat sink withSTK numbers stamped on them. They cost about 10.00 each. They have to be soldered in. Let me know if you need anything further.
