Question about Linksys WRT54G3G Wireless Router (WRT54G3G-ST)

1 Answer

Fast Flashing Light - no Internet connection

Generally my Linksys WRT54G3G-ST router works well. I am using it with a Verizon wireless card and have two wi-fi connected notebooks and one cable connected desktop. There is an external antenna and amp on the wirelss card a I am right at the edge of decent reception. Soemtimes, like tonight, I get no Internet connection at all and when this happens the third LED at the bottom of the router (I have it mounted in the little plastic cradle that came with it with the wi-fi antenna pointing up) is flashing very fast. Sometimes power cycling the router cures this but not always. If I pull the wireless card in stick it in a laptop, I get an Internet connection. When this happens, th rest of the LAN is fine, I can ping everything, print to the 2 printers hooked to the desktop. Router is at the latest firmware rev.

Well, i also had a wrt54g router.Generally that type of router is only for a networkwith one, two max wireless items. When the led light is flashing very fast, it means it is working very hard. You may need to get a stronger router such as the wrt300n which can handle up to about 10 items. By the way, netgear routers are generally stronger and longer lasting than linksys.

Reset the router disconnect the power cord by 40 seconds, and then use small pencil eraser with the point make click to the small switch in router, for hard reset, and wait, and try again if is working. If do not
uninstall the software for Linksys, and install again with the disk setup and try again.
Run the open network connection select the network troubleshooter and fix it., see if the Internet signal is o.k
If the problem persist get support from the Linksys via ONLINE chat for free.

I live in a remote area where there is no cable available so for the past 4 yrs. I've used a Sprint air card with my Linksys WRT54G3G-ST with no problems. Now it won't work, so I tried the air card...

Check your physical connections. Your air card works directly plugged in. The problem is between either your air card / router or router / computer. Make sure your Linksys setttings match your air card settings and that they did not change. Maybe your router got reset to the default configuration somehow?

Default gateway problem with Linksys WRT54G3G-ST

there chat is really awesome get on with them and they will walk you thru. I just did mine... the IP for the router access was 192.168.1.1 but mine was a GS. the user name you leave blank and the password is admin. If the password does not work then hard reset by holding a pen in the the back of the router for a full minute to allow all the power to drain and memory to erase.

Once you have access to the router you can set it to anything want... I suggest you set the number of DHCP leases to be one more than you have computers for so that a guest with a wireless can access without have to set up another access and MAC Filter.

As far as the AIR card goes use a ethernet cable to connect directly to the router to make the changes. then once you are in the router you will set the exact IP and default gateway required by your device and games... you can set them and open ports too... just do not open anymore than you have to..

Good luck,

Jason

Minimum Requirements
  • 400 MHz or Faster Processor
  • 128 MB of RAM
  • Internet Explorer 4.0 or Netscape Navigator 4.7 or Higher for Web-based configuration
  • CD-ROM Drive
  • Windows 2000 or XP
  • Network Adapter
1)It is not Vista compatible according to the data sheet based from:
http://www.linksys.com/servlet/Satellite?c=L_Product_C2&childpagename=US%2FLayout&cid=1160093298732&pagename=Linksys%2FCommon%2FVisitorWrapper

2) I don't understand this question. If your asking can you be on the internet on your 98SE, and and another PC at the same time the answer is yes. That is what routers do, they let you have multiple devices online on your network, once you connect them of course.

3)It all depends on how far you are from your router when its connected, and coverage,etc..

What I would do, is go for a more updated router from Linksys all the 2007 models will have Vista compatible on them.

Good luck!
