I had 2 stix of 512 pc2700 ddr ram installed on my a7v8x-mx mother board and when i tried to upgrade to 2 stix of 1024 pc3200 and it will not boot is theresomething i can do
I pulled up the specs on this board and the maximum memory speed for this board is PC2700 (333). PC3200 is (400). It is most likely out of range for the motherboard to use. I would try doing a bios update on the board with the old memory installed before returning the memory.

Hello,
The Motherboard's specifications mention that it uses DDR Ram, while the FSB runs at 400MHz. That means that any kind of DDR memory will work up to the maximum of 2 GB (it has 2 slots, so it's up to the max of 2x1GB DDR sticks).
There's no issue with the speed, actually the faster you can get the better results you will have. Try looking for 1GB DDR 400MHz (preferably two of them, if you want to max out the capacity and since it's kind of cheap to do so).
The one you tried and didn't work, might be due to a faulty RAM module.
*********** board is Asus old p4 Mother board. It supports maximum 1GB RAM of DDR 400(DDR1). According to your post your computer having only one 512 MB working RAM. If you want good purformance you can upgrade your computer by purchasing another 512MB DDR400 RAM and install it on another RAM slot.If your computer have only one working RAM slot, you can purchase 1GB DDR400 RAM & install it on older RAM place. I think it solves your problem.if you have any problem come back with more information. I will try to assist you more accurately.
yeah thats a normal issue with the dimension 2400 as the older bios only supports a max of 1gb of memory you will need to go to the dell website which ive linked below and get the bios update which will give you support up to 2gb-pc3200 ddr memory
