It's an 8703e. (the model isn't available in the search string, but this problem is registered with a few blackberry models) It doesn't ring consitently.  It goes directly to VM.  I notice that it is pervasive on a number of forums.  The standard solution - remove the battery and replace after 30 or more secs - is only a temporary fix.  This is the case also with a number of people posting.  If anyone has any other solution, it would be much appreciated by all, I'm sure.  (The phone is out of warranty, of course).

My Pearl, just like these, would not ring. Vibrate worked fine. I took the advice and took the battery out for about one minute or so. After it rebooted, the ringer worked fine.

I have the same issue with my Blackberry not ringing. Took the battery out (several times) still no ring. Set the ringer to off, removed battery, put battery back in, set the ringer to Loud, still - no ring.

Me too, mine vibrates 3 times (as settings) then rings once and goes to voice mail. Taking the battery out doesn't change anything. Anyone got any other ideas?????

Blackberries are famous for requiring the "take battery out and put back in" proceedure to reset things. Give it a try if you have not yet.

Hope that helps.. :)

Okay I had the same problem, if you have a Blackberry 8100, go to media, video files, and play a video...if you have no sound tap the top button once quickly (it's the silver buttonon top which has a speaker icon on it with a line go through it,if you still hear no sound use the volume keys on the sound and you should hear the video playing, which in turn will turn on all you volumes for you phone to ring etc.

Hope this helps.

Make sure you aren't using a song downloaded from iTunes as your ringtone. They are mp4's not mp3's, and Blackberrys seem to have a problem with these sometimes.

If it is under a year since you bought the Blackberry, you can get it replaced.  I just did that and I am a happy camper now.  I am in Atlanta and they happened to have a warranty store here. They were very helpful.  If you are not near a warranty store, there has to be a way to mail it in and get another one.

My ringer does not ring - I can hear it slightly when I hold it to my ear. Any suggestions.  Have had it under 6 months

Other than taking out the battery (which did not work) any other solutions?

Comment by renravenous1, posted on Feb 23, 2008

my pearl doesnt ring anymore either, but you can hear the music on the media player so i know the speaker isnt broken on the phone. i've taken out the battery while it was still on and reset it but still doesnt fix it. when i set it to loud in the profiles, it just vibrates and doesnt ring. does anyone know what other steps i should try? i have already uploaded the latest software version as well so any suggestions are appreciated.
