my pearl doesnt ring anymore either, but you can hear the music on the media player so i know the speaker isnt broken on the phone. i've taken out the battery while it was still on and reset it but still doesnt fix it. when i set it to loud in the profiles, it just vibrates and doesnt ring. does anyone know what other steps i should try? i have already uploaded the latest software version as well so any suggestions are appreciated.

My Pearl, just like these, would not ring. Vibrate worked fine. I took the advice and took the battery out for about one minute or so. After it rebooted, the ringer worked fine.

It's an 8703e. (the model isn't available in the search string, but this problem is registered with a few blackberry models) It doesn't ring consitently.  It goes directly to VM.  I notice that it is pervasive on a number of forums.  The standard solution - remove the battery and replace after 30 or more secs - is only a temporary fix.  This is the case also with a number of people posting.  If anyone has any other solution, it would be much appreciated by all, I'm sure.  (The phone is out of warranty, of course).

  • pleibow Nov 11, 2008

Had the same problem. AT&T techs support troubleshot, backed up, reinstalled the OS....same problem. Mind you...my 90 day warranty, for my refurbished Pearl 8110, ended 94 days after it started and they wouldn't dream of replacing it.

However, the SOLUTION # 2, BY CHRIS CHRIS save my ***. Just ran a video, and bingo, ring tones are back.

    ChrisChris, your my hero.

    Thanks

I have the same problem as a lot of other people on here... i got my phone back in early october and everything worked fine until now... im now on school holidays which means my phone doesnt have to be on vibrate anymore just incase someone rings and it goes off in class... My BB Pearl 8100 doesnt ring! I put it on loud and its just silent not even vibration occurs. i put it on vibrate and it vibrates, i put it on quiet and its just silent and the same as normal... the only way i can tell if i am receving a text message or phone call is by looking at the screen! and im not going to spend my whole day looking at the screen of my stupid phone... if having it on vibrate is the only way that i can determine receiving a phone call or text message then thats okay... but its a total pain! someone help me please because im on the verge of smashing it and going back to my motorola V3i

  • amaguta Jan 28, 2009

The same problem happened to me, I did all what I can do even downloading new ring tones nothing happened to solve the problem. I gave my phone to one of our engineers to perform troubleshooting he surrendered himself.

    Thanks, Augustine

taking the battery out helped me :) thanksssssssssssssssss a TON.

  • danedrums Apr 04, 2009

I just did the 'battery pull' to solve this but now I've turned it back on I've been left with the JVM Error 102 which is the biggest nightmare of all time.

I had this same problem as well. the first time i did a battery pull and everything was fine again, for about an hour. when i did the battery pull again, it worked but i noticed when i was closing the door on the back that the sound stopped again. i discovered that pressing on the battery made the speaker engage again. i folded up a piece of masking tape and put it on top of the battery and then squeezed the door down to keep a constant pressure on the battery.

this isn't the classiest of fixes, but my phone rings when people call so i'll take it.

Blackberries are famous for requiring the "take battery out and put back in" proceedure to reset things. Give it a try if you have not yet.

Hope that helps.. :)

Okay I had the same problem, if you have a Blackberry 8100, go to media, video files, and play a video...if you have no sound tap the top button once quickly (it's the silver buttonon top which has a speaker icon on it with a line go through it,if you still hear no sound use the volume keys on the sound and you should hear the video playing, which in turn will turn on all you volumes for you phone to ring etc.

Hope this helps.

Good luck to all other suckers like myelf who got RIPPED OFF with this phone

I had the problem with the phone not ringing and also the problem with my missed calls not showing. I read all the problems on this site, and the solutions and then started trying them one by one. I took the battery out, didn't fix it. I then deleted all the unnecessary things off my phone, didn't fix it. As a last resort I then played a video and tapped the very top of the phone where the silver volume control tab is. That apparently worked like a charm. My phone is now back to normal and I no longer have the urge to run over it with my car.

Go into your profile > Phone > then scroll down to the bottom and make sure the Do Not Disturb is set as No and Not Yes, It will ring if set as NO but won't ring if set as YES.

I had the same problem - the phone wasn't ringing but imediately said "1 call missed". After trying everything the following seemed to be the problem, that I'd introduced by mistake when chaging the ringtone.

In the ringtone setting page (profiles > advanced > normal (or whichever setting you're using) > phone) there is a setting hidden at the very bottom called "do not disturb". If this is set to "yes" then the phones doesn't ring but just goes to voicemail. If set to "no" - hey presto, it rings (assuming you don't have permanent call forwarding on or set to zero rings or something like that).

Hi Princess,

Blackberry has a known manufacturer's defect with the external speaker not ringing on many models of Blackberry phones. However, most of the time all you need to do is go to www.blackberry.com and get the User Guide for the Pearl - It will show you the exact instructions on how to: **"Add a Custom Sound Profile***." Do NOT Set Everything to "Normal" - instead set each volume to a number, such as "8."

If the phone is still not ringing, plug in a $5 set of earbuds or headest directly into the Blackberry. (Not Wireless.) If you hear ringing in the headset or earpieces, then the external Speaker for Ringing is almost certainly defective and would be covered by your manufacturer's warranty at no cost to you to have a replacement phone sent via FedEx, etc.

Sometimes it is also a software problem, as Blackberry phones are almost like miniature computers now, and can have corrupted software and even viruses. It wouldn't hurt to bring the phone into a Direct Location of your carrier, with technicians in the Store-Front to Test your phone and determine if there is a simple software problem or if they need to get you a new phone under warranty.

Make sure you aren't using a song downloaded from iTunes as your ringtone. They are mp4's not mp3's, and Blackberrys seem to have a problem with these sometimes.

Posted on Aug 20, 2008

Make sure the wireless is on.

Posted on Jul 06, 2008

If it is under a year since you bought the Blackberry, you can get it replaced.  I just did that and I am a happy camper now.  I am in Atlanta and they happened to have a warranty store here. They were very helpful.  If you are not near a warranty store, there has to be a way to mail it in and get another one.

Okay, any other suggestions? Cause that battery fix didn't work for me.

Verizon told me my downloaded ringtones were the problem. I'm on my 3rd 8230 Flip in 3 mths. and have not downloaded anything to the phone or inserted a memory simm. Ringtones stop working about once a week. I have to remove the battery with phone on and reinsert it. It takes about a solid minute to boot back up but ringtones are back. The phone and/or operating software are ****. Verizon offered another Flip today.....They say they have never heard of this problem. Blackberry needs to step up and fix this expensive, bum phone.

My blackberry 8100 can't open

If you are having problems with your Blackberry Pearl 8100, 8110, 8120 or 8130, you might want to wipe all of the data off of it and start fresh. You may want to try resetting the device first by removing the battery from the unit for about 5 seconds and reinserting it. If that doesn’t help things, proceed with these steps to erase all data on the device.
You may want to backup your data before trying these steps.
1. On the Home screen, select Options.
2. Select Security Options.
3. Click General Settings.
4. Press the Menu key.
5. Click Wipe Handheld.
6. Click Continue.
7. Type blackberry.
All the data on your BlackBerry Pearl will then be deleted.

If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.
Thanks, Joe
