Question about RIM BlackBerry Pearl 8100
Hi my bb pearl won't ring anymore. it was working fine then it just stoped wanting to ring. anyone know what to do. i checked all the settings and everything is activated and on loud.
I had this same problem as well. the first time i did a battery pull and everything was fine again, for about an hour. when i did the battery pull again, it worked but i noticed when i was closing the door on the back that the sound stopped again. i discovered that pressing on the battery made the speaker engage again. i folded up a piece of masking tape and put it on top of the battery and then squeezed the door down to keep a constant pressure on the battery.
this isn't the classiest of fixes, but my phone rings when people call so i'll take it.

Blackberries are famous for requiring the "take battery out and put back in" proceedure to reset things. Give it a try if you have not yet.
Hope that helps.. :)

Okay I had the same problem, if you have a Blackberry 8100, go to media, video files, and play a video...if you have no sound tap the top button once quickly (it's the silver buttonon top which has a speaker icon on it with a line go through it,if you still hear no sound use the volume keys on the sound and you should hear the video playing, which in turn will turn on all you volumes for you phone to ring etc.
Hope this helps.

Its messed up and unexplainable, but my blackberry pearl flip was ANOTHER non ringing or vibrating piece of dog s***, actually my dog wouldnt evan drop something that stinks as bad as this phone, BUT anyways I tried the battery removable, the advanced ringer settings without resolve, then I watched a video on it and tapped (hard) on the silver border above the display and HOCUS POCUS BLAM It works now, seriously this fixed it!!! Good luck to all other suckers like myelf who got RIPPED OFF with this phone

I had the problem with the phone not ringing and also the problem with my missed calls not showing. I read all the problems on this site, and the solutions and then started trying them one by one. I took the battery out, didn't fix it. I then deleted all the unnecessary things off my phone, didn't fix it. As a last resort I then played a video and tapped the very top of the phone where the silver volume control tab is. That apparently worked like a charm. My phone is now back to normal and I no longer have the urge to run over it with my car.

I had the same problem - the phone wasn't ringing but imediately said "1 call missed". After trying everything the following seemed to be the problem, that I'd introduced by mistake when chaging the ringtone.
In the ringtone setting page (profiles > advanced > normal (or whichever setting you're using) > phone) there is a setting hidden at the very bottom called "do not disturb". If this is set to "yes" then the phones doesn't ring but just goes to voicemail. If set to "no" - hey presto, it rings (assuming you don't have permanent call forwarding on or set to zero rings or something like that).

Blackberry has a known manufacturer's defect with the external speaker not ringing on many models of Blackberry phones. However, most of the time all you need to do is go to www.blackberry.com and get the User Guide for the Pearl - It will show you the exact instructions on how to: **"Add a Custom Sound Profile***." Do NOT Set Everything to "Normal" - instead set each volume to a number, such as "8."
If the phone is still not ringing, plug in a $5 set of earbuds or headest directly into the Blackberry. (Not Wireless.) If you hear ringing in the headset or earpieces, then the external Speaker for Ringing is almost certainly defective and would be covered by your manufacturer's warranty at no cost to you to have a replacement phone sent via FedEx, etc.
Sometimes it is also a software problem, as Blackberry phones are almost like miniature computers now, and can have corrupted software and even viruses. It wouldn't hurt to bring the phone into a Direct Location of your carrier, with technicians in the Store-Front to Test your phone and determine if there is a simple software problem or if they need to get you a new phone under warranty.

Make sure you aren't using a song downloaded from iTunes as your ringtone. They are mp4's not mp3's, and Blackberrys seem to have a problem with these sometimes.

Make sure the wireless is on.

If it is under a year since you bought the Blackberry, you can get it replaced. I just did that and I am a happy camper now. I am in
Atlanta and they happened to have a warranty store here. They were very helpful. If you are not near a warranty store, there has to be a way to mail it in and get another one.

Verizon told me my downloaded ringtones were the problem. I'm on my 3rd 8230 Flip in 3 mths. and have not downloaded anything to the phone or inserted a memory simm. Ringtones stop working about once a week. I have to remove the battery with phone on and reinsert it. It takes about a solid minute to boot back up but ringtones are back. The phone and/or operating software are ****. Verizon offered another Flip today.....They say they have never heard of this problem. Blackberry needs to step up and fix this expensive, bum phone.
