Question about Hoover Commercial C1660-900 Bagless Upright Cyclonic Vacuum

Hep! My 3 month old Hoover Mach 5 doesn't pick up!

When vacuuming, the roller brush won't stay spinning. It just stops. My carpet looks like it has never been cleaned. The cyclone is working cause I can see dirt spinning around, but it hardly picks up anything. The belt is still in place, though maybe it is not tight enough, I don't know. It went from working great, to hardly at all.

I have the same problem. My hoover mach 5 is only a couple months old. When I first got it I loved it, I bumped into something while vacuuming and it started to chatter so loud you cant hear a thing. When I opened the bottom to investigate the belt looked too loose so I got a new belt, which was no easy task since they don't have them in any local stores I had to order it on-line. When I put the new belt on it too looks way to loose. This vacuum is so loud and doesn't pick up very well anymore. I'm very disappointed.

What is happening is the secondary filters, HEPA and the canister all need to be cleaned. This is vital. What the vacuum repair people are keeping from you is that tidbit of wisdom. This particular vacuum is picky about airflow. Pull the canister, and on the body of the vacuum on top of where the canister sits are the secondary filters. There should be a sticker explaining how to remove them. Clean them throuougly, mine was filthy. Make sure you clean the canister by unlocking it and cleaning out the micro holes and the cone end. Mine was completely plugged. Now brush the dirty side of the HEPA filter with the combo tool. Let the secondary filters dry completely (you can blow dry them on cold) Re-install everything, and the vacuum will run like brand new. I vacuumed the whole house after I completed this maintainence and it works like a champ. Don't return this vac until you clean it completely.

Hi, I just got this vacuum at a 2nd hand store for $20, because it was "broken". Im quite handy, so I took it home and tore it completely apart. There are alot of hidden screws, so take your time. I sprayed everything out with my air compressor, cleaned all the filters, and tore the canister apart and sprayed it out thoroughly.I put it all back together, and it works like new. I love non handy people, their loss, my gain. The belt problem may be the switch. There is a spring, and a click type mechanism, like in a ball point pen. if it became misaligned, or popped loose, that could cause that problem. Hope this helps

The first thing to try would be a new belt. once they stretch to a point, they can't hold tight enough to turn the brush roll under load. Check the brush roll also, hold the ends and it should spin freely, if not, then it has bad.

Simple stuff first...did you check the switch for carpets versus smooth floors? For smooth floors, the brush doesn't spin. You also have to switch it with the handle down. Took me a while to figure this out.

I'm getting no suction and the brushes are not rotating

Hello! If you are using the cleaner on carpet, it is necessary for the brushes to rotate to assist the motor with maximum pick up. If your brushes are not spinning check the belt to make sure it isn't broken or stretched. The belt will need replacing about once a year. Below are steps for checking the belt on your U5399-900.

1. Place handle in low position and turn cleaner over so bottom side is up.
2. Remove the 4 screws. Lift off bottom plate.
3. Inspect the belt for rips and tears. If it is damaged in any way, broken or stretched replace the belt

This unit takes belt 38528033. Be sure you replace belt with genuine Hoover parts. Here is a link where you may go to order a replacement belt.

The brushes on my Hoover Steamvac Widepath LS SpinScrub model # F6040 900 are not spinning. What should I do to get the brushes spinning again?

On those models the brushes are turned by suction.
1. Check the lower tank to be sure its completely closed and sealed.
2. Check the lower tank to be sure the tools filler plate is in place (if you used the tools recently)
3. If both 1&2 ok, manually turn the brushes, if they do not turn freely you may have a stuck turbine or bad brush block.
4. Take the brush block out by releasing the tabs on each corner being careful not to break them.
5. Place a large flat blade screwdriver in the square drive hole that drives the brushes under the machine. Gently turn. It should turn slowly with some resistance. If it turns slowly it is ok. If it turns with no resistance it may be bad as well. If it will not you may be able to break it loose with some even pressure being careful not to strip the hole. If it will not turn or makes a lot of noise replace the Turbine assembly.
6. If the brush block has a broken drive shaft or will not turn replace the brush block.

Here is what that brush block should look like.

Brushes don't spin

Hello :
try this please : switch the carpet/bare floor dial back & forth 5 times, ending on carpet. Tilt the handle back as if to vacuum upright & lay the vacuum on its side so it is resting on the side opposite the carpet/bare floor dial. Turn the vacuum on.
or try this also if the above suggestion didn't work :
Maybe the belt is broke. You will have to replace the belt before the roller can spin. You must have run over something in the carpeting like string or whatever to have it break. Happens all the time. Get several replacement belts to keep as spares while you're at it as nothing is worse then having to vacuum and no spare belts.
please rate !

The belt on my hoover cordless is not spinning when I turn it on

You need to replace the belt. Even though the belt may look fine it can be stretched and therefore it won' t turn the roller brush against the resistance of the carpet. You can get Hoover replacement belts here:

My brush will not turn, and the brush control is stuck on "off"

I have had problems with the belts on my Mach 5 overheating (smell of burning rubber) and also with the motor overheating and shutting down.
I learned the hard way that one of the issues might be that the roller/brush on the bottom of the unit has a metal bearing inside the roller/brush that can become clogged with hair (both human and pet hair) which effects performance of the unit.
It’s fairly easy to fix.
Lay the vacuum on the floor so that you can see the roller/brush. Then remove the phillip head screws that hold the protective plastic plate over the roller/brush. (There are about 6 screws that hold this plastic protective plate in place) Also, you will be removing the (1) screw that also holds the plastic plate over the belts. There are (2) belts that you can remove and when in doubt replace these (2) belts for around $9.00.
Once you have the protective plastic plate off that covers the roller/brush disconnect the belt is around the roller. Take the roller and cut off any hair that is wrapped around the roller. Next, grab the roller by each end and twist the ends caps and (1) of the ends will unscrew. Once you have unscrewed one of the ends remove any hair or dust that is trapped under this cap. (Be careful not to lose the small metal washer that sit on top of the bearing)You will notice under this cap is a metal bearing that can become clogged and jammed with hair. The hair should come out fairly easy and allow the brush to spin fairly easy once you have screwed the end caps back in place test that it spins freely. If it doesn’t spin freely replace the roller/brush with a new one for about $23.00.
When you put the belts back on the thick rubber one (Belt # 40201-271) has probably become stretched and should be replaced for about $3.00. The small diameter belt that goes over the roller/brush probably does not usually need to be replaced and does not usually fit very tight. I have heard that people will take the small roller/brush belt and turn it upside down to get a better fit.
I just did this on my Mach 5 and it runs like a new machine. I did end up replacing the roller/brush head.
Hopefully you will find this useful.

Vacuum's brush does not spin on (low) carpet unless switched to "high" but then roller does not pick up hair on carpet. Belts are in good condition. Maybe belts are loose?
Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. Your problem is that you may need to change the belt every 4 to 6 months as a recommended belt change on the vacuum and also keep an eye on the brushes or brush strips; they also help in the vacuum working properly. Here is a typical belt change on a Hoover. Normally there are screws, clips or levers that would remove the bottom plate or if that does not work then the top cover will come off and that will expose the belt. Once that is off and the belt is exposed then cut off the old belt and then lift up the brushroll on the pulley end and install the new belt around the pulley end and re-install the brushroll. Then use a belt puller or a screwdriver with a bent right or left end to stretch the belt onto the motor pulley and then track the belt in a straight line and reverse you steps in the reinstall of the top cover or bottom plate. So if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions.

Steam vac will not pick up dirty water

My Hoover Steamvac problem isn't with the bruches--it's with the suction. Dirty soapy water stays in the carpet instead of being returned to one of the holding tanks.
