ok then tell me. When u run the program is it a windows or DOS program? If its a windows program, usually under the 'Help' menu there would be 'About'. click that and tell me all the details.

My guess it's a new user navigation/nomenclature issue.

If this is a Windows machine, then do another backup and before you start it, write down the PATH to where it "says" it's saving your data.

If it is indeed saving to your "F" drive (not "file"), then open "My Computer", which will show you all the different drives on your computer.

Then compare what you wrote down, and follow that path to your file.

If you can't FIND an "F" drive, than it may be referring to a removable drive that isn't connected to your machine (do you use a removable FLASH drive, or external hard drive?).

It always helps to remember with computers, it's about following a path, if you get off the path, start over, and pay closer attention to what you are doing, and you'll find your way eventually.

By default Mac computers can not access NTFS partitions which is probably what your external drive is formatted with. You can try downloading the program below to see if it will allow you to read the contents of the drive

Hitachi 500gb external hard disk is unable to detech

Have you made sure you have good connections between the computer and hard drive? Sometimes connectors are not pushed in all the way. You might try another cable, or check the drive on another computer. If you need more help, please call HitachiGST Tech Support M-F 8AM to 6PM PST at 1.888.426.5214 and a technician will be happy to help you.

I have a 453 GB Lap Top, 500GB Hitachi will not back, says no more space, I was told to delete all info on 500GB and do new back up, How do I delete info from 500GB?

Open up Windows Explorer (the file manager).

Right-click on the 500GB drive (drive D: or whatever it is) then click Format.

If it says the drive is in use, make sure you close all other Windows Explorer and Command Prompt windows and try again (worst case, reboot then try again).

You could download and then try to diagnose or repair it with the easy-to-use utility program from 'Seatools', a free download from the Seagate website. Hope this helps.

My hard drive suddenly started beeping and stopped working

Your drive has failed. to try to get back some of your items put the drive in the freezer for a day. the chill will make the heads condense enough for about 3 hours of use for emergency backup.

Probably not. You can try putting it in the freezer overnight (in a bag please, don't get moisture in it) but most likely if you must have the files back it will take professional help.
