Question about Tomtom One Europe v2 GPS Receiver

TomTom One GPS fault

I've had my TomTom since Sep 07. After a couple of months it became really slow when starting up and a few weeks later stopped searching for satellites. To get it to search for satellites I have to restore factory settings and reset (this doesn't always work either). Have sent it back to TomTom once nad they returned it saying there's nothing wrong with the device. A colleague has the same model bought around the same time and his takes approx 30 secs to start and a further minute to find satellites (I can drive from Kent to Derbyshire and stil not find a single satellite). And no I don't have an aethermic windscreen. Since TomTom can't find a fault what do I do (other than buy another sat nav)?

    i have had the same problem, my tomtom 910 worked fine, then all of a sudden started slowing down, then no satalite signals at all, screen turned gray, i can still make phone calls through it, says signal lost however many secs/ minutes ago, called tomtom a few months back, they suggested quickfix didnt work, also searching for satalites, for days.. that never worked, they said it was out of warrenty and wouldnt help me further. i asked if i could send it in for repair and i would pay the fee / bill. they said they do not fix tomtom gps units. i said i wondered if garman has better customer service and stands behinds their products? these are not cheap and hardly affordable if they have to be replaced every year or two. thumbs down tomtom

I would send it back to tomtom again and tell them it is definatly not finding satellites. Hopefully they will find the fault this time. if you prefer not to send it to tomtom but have it checked somewhere else , then maybe you can search online with google as I know there are at least 3 places to have it looked at but I won't mention them here as its not a forum for advertising. There are several reasons why its not picking up sats but there are 3 most likely causes. A/ Contact with top antenna board has become broken / unplugged ~ tomtom one and one V2. - B/ Ribbon cable has become unplugged ~ tomtom Go - C/ software faulty or faulty sd card . ......... Most likely cause is faulty file on SD card .

TRY RESET.
My TomTom One XL just stopped navigating one day, at the same location, same windscreen where it was working the day before. It was detecting satellites, some with full strength, but displaying "Poor GPS reception - are you inside a building?" It didn't help to switch it on and off, update the software, run Quickfix, leave it under an unobstructed sky for hours...
Finally the CD driver-like, hardware RESET button did the trick. The TomTom started working in one minute.

Tomtom 720 unit wont turn on .had battery checked and tried usual holding in on/off ,and reset button.is there somewhere in oz i can send it to? my email is kgrant55@hotmail.com cheers.

I had the same problem after downloading the latest maps, the unit was slow to boot up and would not find any satelites. I had no response from e-mails to Tom tom tech support and I was going to give up and buy a new device if this fix failed. I had tried paper clip resets and resetting to factory settings but they had not worked.

After reading the previous answer to this link I searched Tom tom support for 'clear flash' and the search results were more useful than the FAQ on the normal support pages.

I used Tom tom home to uninstall the current software application and then reinstalled the latest version (I had to go through several updates as my version of the software was from when I purchased the unit in 2007), I then downloaded and ran Clear flash and made sure that I disconnected the tom tom from my PC using the correct procedure (using the eject button in the bottom of the tom tom home screen as I read that this could have contributed to the problem in the first place).

After another reset the device came to life and after a few minutes searching for satelites outside the device worked as it should (try checking the configure GPS option if it is taking a while to find a signal, it could be just me but it seems to speed up the search process).

MY TOMTOM ONE WILL NOT PICK UP A VALID GPS SIGNAL


The Tomtom devices need to locate GPS satellites in the sky in order to work. Unlike TV satellites, these do not have fixed positions but move relatively to the ground. The Tomtom can locate them by scanning the hemisphere, but this takes up to ten minutes after you switch on the device.

To speed up the process, the Tomtom receivers can use a helper file stored on the device. It holds precomputed positional data for the GPS satellites that makes finding them a matter of a few seconds.

However, the file holds precomputed data for some two weeks in advance only. After this period, the Tomtom device has to resort to the slow scanning procedure.

You will need to connect your Tomtom device to a PC with the "Tomtom HOME" software installed, available from the Tomtom company web site. Use the software by following the onscreen instructions to update the package "QuickGPSFix" at least once every two weeks and you will find your device much more swift in establishing GPS connection.

Note also, all GPS devices require clear view of the sky. They do not work inside buildings, in tunnels, through the roof of the car, and even trees or buildings near to the car may compromise GPS reception. Make sure the device is mounted in an area of the windshield where it can "see" the satellites.
Some cars have metallic a coating on the windows (used for sunlight filtering and "can look outside - can't look inside" fancies). There are reports that these coatings also interfere with GPS receivers' ability to receive the satellite signals.

Tomtom 720 will not turn on even after pressing reset button


hook it to your usb cable to your for a few hours and then try and start it. first with the power button, it that fails try the hard reset..if neither those work, download tomtom home. follow the directions and tomtom home should be able to repair it unless you have internal problems, like a bad usb port on the gps. bill

Call TomTom 1-978-287-9555 4 months is really early for the unit to break.. thats even before their 180 day warrenty period.. call them today and return it!

alrighty. i tried to download some voices for it. go to my computer, voices. (or whatever you downloaded) look for the recovered fragment files. Delete them . that helped with my tom tom 1

GPS Won't Turn On


Amazing what reading through the support page at TOMTOM reveals... I have the XL so no SD card to remove, but the support page explains that a hard reset by holding the power button takes 15 SECONDS. That's actually a really long time if you watch a clock. I pressed it and waited it out, and it worked. Powered right up. Not sure if I lost all my favorites and stuff but I have them backed up using TomTom Home anyway....
