Here is a solution I found on youtube. When the cartridge is in, pushed and pushed down, try moving it a little left or right. I myself have games that don't work right if you don't do that.

This sounds like a bad connector or mis-adjusted spring tray. With the cart door open try pushing down slightly on the inserted cart. If you get a picture the tray needs adjusting which would require disassembly. Before you do that grab some RCA cables off your old VCR or stereo and see it the red/yellow jacks on the side of the NES console will give you a picture. You might have a bad video output or RF Switch.

I have the original NES, I have tried to replace the 72 pin connector, and it doesn't matter whether it is the old or new one now, when the system is plugged in, whether a cartridge is inside the system or...

Hi doesn't sound good. some times even replacing the connector pin and cleaning the games, gray screen can still happen this could mean that the console is most likely faulty, have had a few cases of this no matter what i do it just stays gray. try and find a replacement console either on line www.gameoz.com.au or from the auction sites.

Whenever i turn on my NES the power light blinks and the screen blinks colors, why?

Hi sounds like the common fault found with these old retro consoles. Flashing light is mostly because the system does not make good contact with the game. which may be because of a worn out connector pins in side the console or dirty games recommend cleaning all your games with a game cartridge paste cleaner and replacing the connector pin with a new one. see http://www.gameoz.com.au/store/nintendo-entertainment-system/nes-accessories/ they carry these items and included photo instructions.

Blinking screen

Rooster...the unit must be off before the game can be inserted. It is unclear if you've damaged anything by doing the other way.
