I had the same problem. Deatache the mute wire. That is for cell phones. I think it is the brown wire but I cant be sure. Look over the wiring diagram and it will say Mute. Don't wire this wire in.

On a audiovox vm9312 I lost remote and can't turn

The VM9312 has a volume knob on the unit's faceplate. Just rotate the knob on the left (a little below the optical disc D slot) clockwise to increase the volume. Turn it the opposite way to lower the volume. (If you have the knob set to the maximum volume and then lowered the volume with the remote, you may need to reset the unit; see below.) If you push in and release on this button, you press Enter or confirm a setting when you are in any audio settings menu.

If the volume control isn't working, check if the mute is on. Press once to toggle the Mute. The mute button is just below and near the right side of the optical drive slot.

If you still can't change the volume, check if you have the wiring correct and no shorted wires. Look for damage at the speakers (or evidence of mice chewing on the wires). Also check your audio balance. See the manual page 12 here: http://www.voxxintlcorp.com/docs/common/VM9312/VM9312_OM.pdf . You may also want to try a system reset. (Press and hold the reset button for a few seconds by using the tip of a ballpoint pen in the little opening at the lower right hand side of the faceplate.)

I hope this helps.

Bypass code for radio that our locked

Thank you for your e-mail. Put in the same number 3 times (example 1111) until it locks and then push in the mute bottom and hold it and while you hold the mute button with your other finger push in the volume control (power button) and hold both of them until a new screen comes up and then put in 122164 and hit OK and that should work.

let me break it down you do not need the remote...

first put the same number in (e.g 1111 enter this number 3 times) second after the device locks on the radio hold the mute button while holding that press in the volume nob (e.g power button) hold them both till another screen comes up and enter 122164 and press ok and your all done... this solution works on all dual indash dvd players

Alpine pkg-1000

Hello alpine_freak, You can disconnect power from the unit and this will kill the power feed to the system memory (the memory that hold commands from the remote)Now if this does not work I have seen where the unit indicated mute as a response rather than an actuator of an event. This is rare but it does happen. What could cause this is if the audio pre-amp goes out or is turned off by the mute button and there is no sound the unit detects this and indicates a mute. This I hope is not what is happening here, because this is a design flaw, the mute should turn off the pre amp and indicate a mute condition because the mute button was pushed, not indicate mute because of a no-audio condition. As said try to remove power from the unit and if this does not work, I would suggest finding a shop on fixya to take or ship your unit to for repair
